I am looking to upgrade my rear tires, I would like to go to at least a 33" tall tire for more ground clearance. With stock 091 gearing I shouldn't exceed a 35" tire. Looking for suggestions?

what size motor do you run? i would suggest a 35 bogger or Q buckshots.. i prefer the shots myself, they measure 36" but they are feather weights compared to a set of heavy boggers... their pros and cons to everything. boggers are good, all around tires.. the shots are awesome, especially on rocks and roots or hard pack dirt but if it gets a lil damp, you can hang it up..

I have no issue with power as I have a torquey V6. I have been running a 31x12.50x15 ProComp X-terian it isa very soft rubber compound and seems to work well so far every where wet or dry. I think the cut 23 degree Firestone tires are probably the best for climbing.

So my follow up question is does any one have a set of 33" or 35" tall tires I can tryout to see what works with the gearing of the 091's stock first gear.

i think you have plenty of ground clearance, in my opinion its the 150inch wheelbase you have that thing is long ass hell and it has to give clearance somewhere v-treads or boggers id say though!! and good ridin with you at windrock!! that limo gets around just fine by the way what is the wheelbase? dont think i asked you that!

Dave it is 130" and 15'-6" bumper to bumper. Some of it is driver and some is plain horse power. Think I am leaning toward running a 33" or 35" ProComp Xterrian and cut out every other lug. It was nice riding with you as well. Just wish I had gone out that night. Just starting to get my voice back.

i agree red, firestones are some nasty tires, just limited clearance ... dont hold me to this, but i heard a rumor of a 35" firestone..ive never seen, or heard anything else about them The tires on the back of Van shitin-n-gittin's buggy are 23 degree V treads, maybe a 38" tire?? ive always wondered about them, weight and actual height.. hopefully someone will chime in and school us both

If its ground clearance your looking for you might want to look into getting a set of 3x3 trailing arms and a set of custom axles or 2x3 with a micro-stub axles and some custom cut axles would allow you to run your torsion on up while still running the same angle on your axles. Taller tires equals more rotating mass and changes gear ratio's, thats going to create more stress on your drive train.

I am currently running a 3x5 custom trailing arms with race prepped 930 CV joints, 300m gun drilled Kartek axles. Short of building a 5 X5 trailing arm to allow longer axles. So for now I am debating just running a 33" tall ProComp XTerrian tire for trails and I have secured a set of Denman 23 degree cut V tread tires for hill climbing.


This is a photo during mock up to set max travel in both the compression and droop. I have a 1.5" buffer on droop to prevent the coil over shock from bottoming out and cv from over angle.
