I have a "family friendly" 4 seater buggy that I built. It is basically on a zero budget. The tires I have for it are very mild compared to what a lot of you guys use, but it is all I have. I mostly drive on dirt roads and dry grass because I have 2 very little kids and can't get too wild with them. However, even on dry grass these tires kind of suck. I was thinking about removing some of the lugs on the tires hoping to make them a little more aggressive. I added one picture to show you what I am dealing with 1) What pattern should I chose? I was thinking maybe take out every other rectangular lug. 2) HOW does someone with no money remove lugs? 3) Is this a huge waste of my time?

you can buy a cheap groover from day racing for 59 bucks...or you use a propane torch and heat up flat chisel with long handle...not sure how many ply tire you have so might want to go too deep at first....maybe couple practice runs on an old tire...if you get too crazy you can always throw a tube in them

This will sound crazy but I have seen it done.. You can use a chain saw to remove lugs.. I would do some diagonal cuts . Tape it off 1st so you can follow a pattern

I have access to a grooving tool. I have also used a sawzall. File a long sawzall blade down to a knife edge. Place it in your sawzall, and cut out whatever tread you want. Just by looking at the tire in your pic, i would cut all the bar tread out and leave the z pattern tread.

Sorry... I have seen it done but never tried it myself... I would end up cutting the tire in half..

I appreciate the offer, but I don't have any money to spend on something that nice.

I have Yokahoma tires on the front of my buggy that have that tread pattern. They were pushing in the mud so i used my grover to cut the treads out to have a full clean out paths. Work better however i will be removeing more over the winter.
