Antique engines with large flywheels that were governed by shunting the spark which creates a unique sound when it rotates and only fires when needed to. Actually your dune buggy engine is a hit miss because there is only 1 power stroke per 2 revolutions of the crank.

Bunch on ebay but they sure aren't cheap. Those antiques hold some value for sure. Pretty cool idea for a churn.

14 engines in one lot. This is the investment purchase here:

That is exactly what I'm building. Except mine will be a Fairbanks Morse engine. Wish I could find a John deer cheap but I have found there is no such animal Ha Ha
Is that the coolest thing
Has anyone seen the Brad Paisley vid southern comfort zone that starts with the McCormick Deering hit miss tractor as the rhythm section now that's cool

thank God the wright brothers did not start out with a hit and miss motor. The craziest motor I have ever heard of was the old German triplane in WW1. the flywheel and crank was bolted to the frame solid and the whole radial motor spun with a propeller attached to it. They say the British first made it but went on to something else. They even got the ball rolling with the jet. I think it was a wittle or something.
