hey i was wondering if any of you fellows might have a snazy way to protect a couple msd boxes on a buggy. im not at that point yet in my build but i thought i would ask ahead of time

I took a plastic case like a cordless drill comes in, cut out the stuff inside, drilled a couple ventilation holes in side and bottom, and there you go.
Not anything fancy that requires hours of fab work (that are lost forever), but....
Cheap easy light fast and it works fine.

An MSD tech told me to keep it open to keep it cool, just protect it the best you can.

mine would shut down until i put in some vents for it.

the buggy would run fine then all of a sudden start missing and wouldn't start. wait 5 mintues and it would be back to perfect.

I run my open as well.... It is behind a piece of aluminum so it stays fairly protected... I also purchased the "Off Road" MSD box. I may have just wasted my money paying more for the "Off Road" MSD box but the "Off Road" version appears to be more weather resistant.

My MSD-6BTM is enclosed in an alumimun box and it works fine. It has not cut out after 4 rides.

Only bad thing about the offroad box is no rev limiter, and limiter has saved my engine more than once.

They told me same thing about it needing air to cool.

They actually do make an "Off Road" rev limiter that you can add. Although, the price just keeps going up.

i have always just run mine out of the way, and no problems yet. The other bad thing about the off-road box, is you can't get it repaired. you have to start over!
