Anyone tryed adding fenders to the front spindels with any success? I have been considering it for some time however never got around to it. My front tires throw tremendous amounts of mud in my face and it's time. :(

I know a few guys that have them mounted to the frame. They work but don't really look that great on them to me,lol. Phillip from across the pond has them on his and I'm not sure but think they are mounted to the spindle. Chad

if you get a nose peice from a quad and cut it down, you can mount the fenders with round bar

I have a design in mind using .062" Aluminum and 5/8" or 1" tubing. I suppose I should have clarified the question. Has anyone done and they actually lasted in the Woods. The front suspension will exert a lot of stress on the mounting brackets and fenders with the arm movement along with the weight of mud hanging to the bottom of them. Not to mention tree branch's etc.

Ours are mounted off the frame for that exact reason, it makes them much worse for looks and drag, but you need some serious reinforcement to stop the flex if you mount them on the spindle, especially as the mud/weight builds up.

I was wondering when you were going to chime in. So have you tryed to mount them to the spindle's? It is not feasible for me to mount them to the frame as the front end is way to wide to do that.

My thoughts would be to make the supports out of some light weight round tubing and the fender out of plastic. The supports would be a "J" or "L" shape and the plastic fender mounted under the supports. Then mount the assembly close to the tire so it can clean the mud off and also absorb any excess motion of the fender.

What are you waiting for Ody, just make something work. I don't enjoy mud facials either.

Not on ours no, but a lot of the other buggy guys have and they're forever picking them off the scenery :D

Finally got around to making some fenders. I bought a pair of aluminum Baha fenders and made mounts for them to bolt on to the spindles. Surprisenly they are really solid only being mounted by one 1/2" bolt. Having the double shear top plate to mount to does help. Still need to trim them upon the front edge to make them more narrow bolt them to the brackets with 1/4 20s and paint the brackets however mostly done.

I have thought about doing this before how do they work ? Do they have problems rattling or gathering mud ?

If I remember the story correctly he cleaned them off real quick, trees and vines and stuff and I recall something about them not being clocked down low enough.

The fenders work well. As MadMike stated they were clocked to high in the back letting more mud and water spray than I wanted . I reclocked them and now they are much better. I did have a branch go between a fender and tire bending it some however it was easy to bend back. They do vibrate a little however a thin piece of rubber between them and the mounts should take care of that. Overall I am pleased with the results and would do it again.

Here's mine from your ideas. I clocked them level or a tad higher than my bottom frame. I figured that would still give me maximum clearance for going over a rock. I will probable get more spray but I hope my newly installed side panels will help.Image

Thanks Ody. By the way. Capt. I will be attempting some back fenders soon. I will be using the body material I got from Speedway Motors. Its .125" thick and comes 25' long. Welding brackets in front of and on top of wheel erea then overlay those with the plastic. A heat gun should help make nicer bends. Stay tuned.
