Lincoln Mark VIII with a 4.6 four valve, 1993 . I went to pull a part and this car had a 3.07 ALUMINUM 8.8 IRS diff. I loosened it up and it clunked to the ground instead of a common ground shaker with an iron diff. The iron diff out of a nearby 4.6 cougar has an 8.8 327:1 diff. I snatched the aluminum! It will be in the Passsat this week end.It will be a little higher ratio but maybe it will chug the wheel speed down a little.

My guess is CV's and axles. I would think it would be pretty stout. Worst case is you have to find another differential for a few hundred. Not bad compared to a couple thousand for transaxles.
