Post subject:  Redesigned Baby Chains for W/C or A/C

I'm retiring soon and I've been kicking around a retirement job.Everything will be milled, lathed, drilled, bored and welded by a downtown machine shop.I just put them in a box with new bushings, bearings and chains.I will have an "add" on Woodsbuggy if thier is enough intrest to get started. They will have the width of 3x3's but 8 inches longer and 1" extra lift, which would defintly help a heavy W/C center of gravity. They will be super tough and relativly lite.A type 3 torsion bar would be recomended.(type 1 is 21 m.m., type 3 is 22.5).Front sprockets are interchangable from 14 tooth to 20 tooth. Rear are fixed and 16 to 21 tooth.Ex: 16x20 would make 1/4 more torque. The front sprokets will adjust up to 1.5" for 15minute different ratio swap out and re-adjustment per side. Specify your rotor size for hub and your lug pattern.VW 4or5, chevy, ford. Disc brake ears will be supplied. The cheapest I can manage this is rite at $1k/pair.Looking for intelligent feedback.Thanks.

I am thinking that with the additional leverage of an 8" longer arms your Torsion bars will need to be at least 30mm Sway-A-Way or better yet Coil overs. I dought stock torsions would last a day!

Could be Ody. They may need some help larger than type 3, but I don't know. Air bag ,shock,I don't know.

I agree with ody, and a torsion bar will only twist so far before it snaps, size doesnt matter.

Agree been there done that. I twisted the spline end off a 28 MM on my Tank 2 seasons ago and that was when I went to Coil overs. BTW Passet I did not mean to hijack the thread, only offering an outside design opinion.

I may be and probably am wrong but I think the min 13 tooth sprocket on front and up to 24 on back will make the gearing easier to obtain to run second gear ( read stronger) for climbing :|

Trying to stay within the parameters of those new Weedle 1st and 2nd gear sets. I'm trying to keep 31" and 35" tires in mind. But I can send the customer just about any ratio they can dream up.The sprocket catalog has a list of do's and dont's. One is "If a very sm and very lg sprocket are too close together, the smaller may not have the 1/3 minimum chain wrap." So, with lg hp, who wants minimum chain wrap? Thanks Marty.

I will not make or sell anything without supporting woodsbuggy.com .

A $1,000.00 price tag definitely has my attention as an excellent value. The way longer arms make the torsion alone too soft (white SAW) but by supplementing the torsion with your choice of coilovers/bags/air shocks you can achieve the level of ride you wish. Bubbachains recently made its first flight and lands on a pillow with this setup. Weight haters may not appreciate the Cadillac ride but my old back does and if a bag blows I can still drag myself out of the woods. There is no increase in degrees of twist at the torsion on mine but at the end of a 13" longer arm the amount of wheel travel gained is significant. Make the baby chains to mate up to VW spring plates so all opinions can be satisfied.

They are designed to use the vw torsion and spring plates. Narrow and short as possible, very tough, incredibly strong bearings, lite, price, trans life, c of g, desired ratio and fast swap out and adjustment. Size 80 chain and sprockets. Same as all chaindrives. Thanks Bubba.I loved your set up.
