has anyone used electric rack with any luck on their buggy?..i heard some cobalts have them and newer hondas..thinkn of power steering options...anybody?...would it just be easier mount rack off an older car with pump?..if so what racks u guys running..thanks |

I think there are afew guys on here that have the cobalt power steering untis, but the problem is you need the ecm out of the car too. Just having the unit wont work because you cant control it. There is another guy I know that is running electric power steering out of a ew Explorer that they flashed so the unit thinks its in neutral, but thats too hu\igh tech for me to understand. |

The problem is it uses info from other modules for veh speed,what gear veh is in etc. I have an entire cobalt column/ecu/motor assembly. Here are some pictures of the basic assembly and some info on operation and schematics. 1st is right side up as mounted in the cobalt.  Second is upside down or the way it would look from floor of car.  Here is how it works.  Schematic

If i'm reading this corectly the power steering control module sends varying current to the motor based on various conditions. So could'nt you just do away with the module and vary or set current to the motor to suit the amount of assist you would like to have? |

A buddy of mine's uncle or something makes these for GM or something and he made a few for the buggies that are programmed to do what you would want a buggy to do. I dont remember the specifics.
