Figured I'd give it a thread of it's own. Normally I dont like to half-ass things but I simply dont have time to finish the single seater for this year so I'm going to recycle Dunebuggy79's Stalker for this season. Between the weather, my divorce & my kids I cant get enough done.I barely have 15 hours a week to spare & I'm tired of killing myself on a buggy that wont be ready for this season.

I brought it home in the back of my trailer then transferred it onto my old buggy hauler by myself......NEVER AGAIN will I attempt that insanity.

After 3 weeks the snow melted enough for me to get it in the garage. I turned the single seater on its side & slid it beside my 4 seater. I cant fit anymore CRAP in this friggin garage.

Thats the plan. I already dropped the 2180 off at Jim's VW to get a set of thick wall cylinders cut to fit the 92mm block since the heads are 94mm. Im getting the full port & polish + new valves in the 050 heads. With the engine handled all I need to do is make a few changes & mount my seats. I think I can have it ready for Memorial day as long as nothing goes wrong. There are a bunch of changes Id like to make but I need to resist the urge & leave it alone.

One of the changes Im going to make is to swap the 2x3 arms & bus joints for a set of 3x3's & 930 joints. I saw the Samba post about the Appletree arm tearing & was going to reinforce these but I cant see a weak point.

The bottom end of the 2180 is fresh & I hate to split the cases & add more expense just for a dozen HP. Im sinking big bucks into the heads & intakes which will make up for it. Im also boosting compression to 11 to 1 or so. I should end up with less than 2500.00 in this engine.

I told him I needed back by the end of April. That gives me a 2 week cushion if he runs long.
If I run out of time Ill yank the 1915 off my 4 seater & bolt it on there. :D

Ive had good luck with Jim over the years. Either way, he's one of the best head porters out there & the heads will be worth the wait.

Yes but u gained like 50 lbs doing that, lol.
DBN I run those arms too and have snagged my wheels on few trees while learnig how to drive tight woods, still on there. I wouldnt worry a ton on it, but I will go a different route myself next time. I have seen one pic of it broken at the front of the outer weld. Might of just been a bad set, might be a true weak spot, not sure.

That price includes a 1 wire alternator, compu-fire ignition, CB dry sump & dual Webber 40's. I could have had it in & running for about $1800 but I decided there was another 40 HP t& 40 lb.ft. to be had by maxing out a set of 050 heads. I could have gotten my 140 HP Pinto engine in here for around $800 which includes the propane setup(poor mans fuel injection) but I dont have the time to get that done. To be ready in 10 weeks Im forced to compromise. Besides....I need this engine for the single seater anyway.

Those big vw air cooled engines are impressive.

if you are worried about the arms plate and box them in with some 1/8 sheet metal and that should stiffen them up a while lot and not be just a gob heavier

Tore into the frontend & installed the adjusters(thanks, Tony)& got em close. I never did my own before & Im off by an 1/8" but it doesnt seem to affect anything. I forgot to account for the thickness of my chop saw blade....OOOPS. The lower beam had a minor bend anyway so thats the least of my problems. I also referenced the stock adjusters when I put these in & clocked them too far around. That was an easy fix as I cut the vertical ties & rotated the tubes till they were right. Now I just have to tie them back together & it will be fine. I know all this for next time....LOL
