i made a trip to d&k last year on rhino's and got to watch a chain drive rail hitting hills we couldnt even get on so i had to have one... so I traded off a 4 wheeler i had for this buggy and quite a bit of parts for it.. I've built a few jeeps and 2 four linked toyotas but the vw scene is all new..

just about everything on the buggy was junk so im pretty much starting fresh.. stock 1600 for now getting 3 rib and better front beam next week.. any input would be great.. not too sure of what all should be done just trying to make it as strong as possible :D

Image

having difficulty loading pics but i'll try to get up the new ones.. it is a totally different buggy now...

Image

Image

Image

i wasnt too crazy anout the cage so i did what i thought would be strongest.. im a little stumped on what to do on the engine cage... i got too many ideas

i got the floor out now hope to have it all replaced by wednesday

Image
this is my jeep.. 9 inch rear scout 44 front.. iron duke pushing 275hp 650 holley.. corvette muncie 4 speed.. i run 31s and usually follow guys with 38s+ :D :D :D
Image

my old man was wanting to build a new iron duke for his jeep and i was thinking of putting this one in the buggy but dont think it would be feasable and would probably go through parts :o :o

lookin good! make sure you atleast mock a case in when you do the engine cage so you can get the cage up close to the bottom of the case, if not you'll end up like me and have to redo your cage. can't wait to see more!

It looks good. Much better design than the Warrior folding door approach. The only exception i take is the "A" piller Parallelogram. It does not offer you a whole lot more cage strength than the "A" piller. The support tube really needs to come straight down for triangulation and then a support from there to the lower frame tube.

I think Ody means something like what I did here.

yeah i didnt know how strong it would be but i think it looks better with them parralel.. after i tie them together i think it should be plenty strong and i'll be able to make a nice dash the way it is....
got the floor mostly finished today just keep forgetting to take the camera with me.. probably have more pics up tomorow. 8)

sooo the ol' lady is still telling me she doesnt know how safe she will be!! im running out of ideas to make it any stronger.. what do you all think? does it look like it will take a few rolls down a big hill/ if not any pointers would be great!!

Wow... That is a lot of bracing and it looks great... The only spot I see that you could possibly add more bracing would be a cross brace in the windows. However, then you will need to get in and out through the windshield.

If you old lady is like my wife, all the bracing in the world will not help. However, a flimsy body (were she cannot see the ground) makes her feel much safer. You might want to ask some more questions about what she is afraid of.

Good luck and great job on the Fab work.

it will get a body on it... im thinking of doing a lexan rear window in my X brace any thoughts on that? obviosly a floor too and i'd like to cover my race brace and make a door on it to have access to the battery and pedals.. after i put doors on my jeep she wasnt too worried when we were in ravines with the jeep laying on her side against a hill crawling.. she isnt too keen on rolling over and that seems to be common in a buggy.. i've trail rode for about 7 years in trucks and jeeps and never rolled.. so i plan to buy a few corner gussets just for the ease of added strength and put them here and there... the window bar would be too close to my head

I would not do the lexan rear window . A guy i rode with had a 1/2 windsheld & rolled it broke & cut him bad right by his eye

so what does everyone do for windows? i've put lexan front rear and sun roof windows in trailriders and had no problems out of them.....

I use AS1 safety glass for my windshield. Any Auto glass shop can cut it for you. It costs about $70 to have my windshield cut.

i wouldn't waste your time or money with a windshield, unless you plan on riding on the road A LOT. i ride on the road quite often, just wear safety glasses.

Post subject:  Re: another newb warrior build

im not too worried about a front window... i was hoping more to have a rear window in my X brace.. i will worry more about the front when it gets cold cause im not planning to have the buggy done before april...

another thing i am wondering is if anyone knows if someone has deals on kirkey seats... i have 3 sets of the plastic racing seats but those seats are the worst thing ever made uncomfortable as hell!!!
