I started the day after Christmas and this is where I'm at now. None of the bracing is in yet so don't slam me over it. Construction has slowed down due to me having the Crud for two weeks, feeling better now and hope to resume this week. ![]() ![]() This is what it used to look like:

That looks real good, nice work. If you could, take a close up shot of your rear outboard trailing arm pivot, looks different. Might give folks an idea or two. |

Super job!!!!! Looks more like your totally rebuilding it instead of just putting a roof on it. |

Here is a picture of the outboard pivot. It was all homemade by me. I turned a piece of 4130 to be hammered into the torsion where the old spring plate bushing used to go. It was then Tig welded all around and also 3 rosette welds through holes bored into the torsion tube. Then I used this plug as a guide to plasma cut the old torsion end plate off. If you need any more pictures of anything just let me know. Also thanks for the compliments. My favourite part of the new work is the engine cage, 4 bolts, and the whole rear of the buggy is off, engine comes out complete air cleaners and all. I can't take credit for the design though I stole it off some desert racer I saw online. I was going to build a new frame this winter however I lost my job of 15 years in August, I have a new job now but at a lot less $$$$. I have little hope that the economy is going to change for the better anytime soon. I already had most of the tubing bought so I decided to correct all the things about my current frame I did not like. ![]() ![]()

Now that's a killer way to do it. I like that better than my set up. Excellant work. Need more photos |

Thanks for the kind words, they are much appreciated. I did not get anything photo worthy accomplished this evening. I am using swinging pedals in the buggy and dropped them down a couple of inches to what they were in the old buggy. The result is they feel so much better but the kicker is there is no where for the steering shaft to go. So this evening was a "design session" AKA sit by the fire and try to figure out what to do. If the interest is there I will continue to post pictures as I progress. |

Catrunner: Nice build!! I noticed your air filter setup with the aluminum boxes that sit on the carbs. I have been considering doing this to mine to get them up away from the mud. How do you like it, any recommendations ? Thanks, Dale |

Thanks again for the kind words. I ran out of Argon Monday and will not be able to get another tank until Saturday. I cut some more bracing and ran out of 1 1/4" tubing so it looks like Saturday before I can start again. As for my air cleaner set up, I love it. It was fairly expensive to start with but I consider it one of the best things I have ever done to the buggy. They were put on two winters ago and I have not had to clean the idle jets since. I hope this answers your question, if not let me know. When I get argon I have about a weeks worth of welding to do to catch up. I do still have some 1 1/2" tubing left and hillaholic posted a dang fine looking bumper that I am going to copy so just to keep going I will bend it up while I wait on supplies. So here is a few pics of where I am at now. Front view: ![]() Rear View: ![]() Side View: ![]() In the mean time thanks for following along. |

Well, progress has been a lot slower than expected. It is now Buggy weather and I am still at least a month from being done. If only I was younger and not as lazy. So here is some pics of where I am at now: Front Bumper ![]() Dash ![]() Pedals ![]() Plumbing is done. I still need to wire it, get the sheet metal (body) done and rattle can the frame. |

| Post subject: | The body is finally done |
Well after three months of waiting for my body man to find time between all the Late Model dirt cars to build me a body, here it is. ![]() It is still not done but I am going to ride it until it gets too cold for my old bones. Then I am going to build new rear control arms with mid-board hubs, I hope to get about 20" of usable travel out of the rear and use the 16" Fox bypasses I picked up. |
