welllll....... since coldness and snow is here in ohio, it is time to start repairing/upgrading parts on the buggy. So me and my dad have decided to stretch his frame. it is 95" as it sits now, we are planning to put schedule 40 pipe inside the frame rails, and more 1 1/2" on the outside of the sechdule 40 pipe and weld it all up.
we lwgenthened my frame last winter from 87" wheelbase to 102" wheelbase. We are going to stretch his to about 100" or 101". the reason for the stretch is he has rolled 7 times in 4 years and it has been because he stands his buggy up too much. he never really had a problem with a 1641 and a 3 rib. but when he went to the 1915 and the 3 rib the rolls just kept coming. and its getting expensive, so ill post pic's when we start cutting his apart. and hopefully there will eb another section by me posting pic's of me switching into a 1 seater, if everything works out.
if you have any comments or ideas...... they are welcomed with open arms! lol.

i want to make a new windshield hoop too. Is that going to be hard? Or better yet, would it be worth the hard work and effort put into it. Since you know how low that loop sits.

is yours naturally 103"? or what did you do to it to make it 103"?

i think mine was a 101 with stock arms,i put 2x3 arms on it made it 103,i think,that has been so long ago

schedule 40 could be used for light duty X bracing,but i use 120 wall dom on my roofs and rear cage,the rest of the car 095

Why would you add all that extra weight to end up with 1/3 the strength? Why would you jeperdise your life and or others to save a hundred Bucks? I really dont get it.

when i streched mine i used 095 it went from 92 inch wheelbase to 106 now with 2x3;s i even drilled holes in the frame slid the pipe in welded up the holes and around the cut its been 5 years this winter and not so much as a crack (so far)

095 is a little over 2.00 a ft here,ive never used sch.40 pipe,but if i wanted to make a front bumber out of it i would,thats about all i would do with it,i have seen complete buggys built out of it to

the reason why we are using the sec. 40 is that by grinding it down a bit it will slide right into the frame tubes. is there a dom tubing that will alide right into it?

that comment.. yes there is tubing that will work and you want to slide a smaller piece of tubing inside the one end, weld it, slide the other end over it, and weld it all shut, if that makes sense, but yes trust me, there is the correct sizes of tubing out there, my frame is stretched 3 high and 3 wide all with tubing

Pics? Info? How did it go? What did you end up doing? I am looking at doing this to my 88" wheel base buggy. Hoping to stretch it out to 98" or 100". Thanks.
