Well we have a 4* camber change, and we can't figure out the scrub untill we have wheels and tires on it.

awesome. i would be frowning to, pretty sure those triple bypasses alone cost more than enough to be down about. excellent work though.

Is it made from 1.5" tubing with 1.25" diagonals?

Why did you state 7* of camber on Race-Dezert, and 4* here? Did something change in the last few weeks?

Why do you favor trailing arms over semi-trailing arms? Or did you just want to use what you had on hand?

I don't know why I said 4* on here. AT full droop, its like 0*, and at bottom, its around 6*. I guess it all depends on which one of my broken anglefinders you kick across the floor, then pick up to check it with. Yes thats 1.5 and 1.25. I love the simplicity of the straight pivot arms. My last 2 cars had them, and I think they do great.

stock "vw" rear arms are semi-trailing arms. They make an arc as they cycle, where straight pivot arms don't. both have pro's and con's.

The con of straight pivot trailing arms is no camber change. This only matters if you plan to do any cornering.

The semi-arcing trailing am gets a tad more travel because the cv binds a little later.

I see.. When i started my build i thought camber was a bad thing. And luckly now i dont have to worry about cv angles..

Well, the progress looks minimal at this point, all the "big" things are done. We mounted the ram for the power steering, which was a pain in the A$$! It took us about 5 hours to figure out how to mount it out of the way of the a-arms and tie rods, and make a new spreader plate, but I think it looks clean, and is mounted perfectly. Other than that, some new bracing.... and thats about it for now!

In looking at your Ram mount and from what I see you are going to bend the tube that its attached to. I have the same Sweet set up mounted to a 1/4" thick tab welded to the lower frame were the cross member "T"s into the main and you can watch it flex back and forth at the end of stroke. The ram still pushs on the mount even after your steering reachs it stops. I added an additional brace to help. There is an extreme amount of force applied to that joint. Plumberbill has actually ripped his away from the frame twice and its a 2 point connection.

I don't know much, but i was thinking the same thing. Especially with the stress and abuse it is going to go through.

I'm not going to argue that at all. We were looking at the racks that sweet sells with that same ram, and they don't have any more than an 1\8" tab holding it. I know the mount on this is alot stronger than that. Time will tell.

Could be that they can limit the stroke in the rack to match the steering stops. If you can use up all your travel then its not an issue. I have in my plans to add internal limiters to the ram to stop the push on the tab when the steering gets to its stops.

well, as long as the rack is at its stops, it should be ok, right? Once the rack stops, you will not be able to turn the servo, so the ram shouldn't be able to move either. I haven't screwed around with this set-up too much. I know that with a torque generator, you can tear everything up pretty quick with-out stops

Actually the Servo valve is still open in the direction of the steering wheel and thats why the ram continues to push. The Servo does not know you have stopped turning until you move the wheel in the opposite direction and reverses the valve.

Yeah, i guess your right. I was thinking about internal stops (in the ram), and that would be easy to do... OR I was also thinking, this car will be competing against me this year... It might be to MY advantage to let it break  HA HA HA! just kidding kevin

Internal stops is probably the easyest. One will have to have a hole in it to accomadate the shaft and the other one only needs to be a blank round of 6061. Measure the distance of travel both ways and mark you ram shaft. Odds are the spacers will be of different lengths depending on the geometry. When you make the spacers add 1/16" for system flex.
