Hey guys I'm new at this forum so bear with me]
I'm building a dune buggy using a 1972 VW BUS PARTS
My question is did VW use the same axel beam in the VW cars as in the Bus. When I go on line to order TORSION SEALS I can find them for the Bugs but not the bus. ImageImageImageImage

You will need to order bus seals from somewhere that deals in bus parts. There is a reason (almost) no one uses bus stuff, no one supports it in the aftermarket.

I think a more important question needs to be asked, what's with the box tube chassis? I'm wondering what compelled you to use box tubing instead of round mechanical tubing? I'm going to assume that all of those miters are butt welded together and then ground smooth to look good? Wow, I'm really shocked, or I'm really stoned, first time eve I'm not sure what to say.

I used Bus parts because I read that Bus Transmissions are stronger than the Bug transmission, and I used square tubing because this is the first buggy I ever built and since I didn't have access to a tube bender I found it easier to work with.

Your design choices seem to be gauged toward a heavier
set of specifications, just like a VW bus.
The VW bus was obviously designed to carry more payload
than a bug, including it's own heavier weight.
From what I have read, you will enjoy the truck-like feel
of your machine.
You should consider having all other components to follow
suit such as bigger engine and heavy duty axles, brakes, etc.
Going bigger and heavier for off road means more damage
to components and higher expense to deal with the higher
stress loads.

Hello jimp,
Your wright, this project has been put on hold the last 10 years or so. It's more of a learning experience than anything. I used the VW BUS because that was available at the time. The 1600 engine that came out of the bus has been built up to 1850 if I can remember wright. The engine build was a learning experience also, I did have the block modified and used counterbalance crank plus other things that I really don't remember but things are slowly coming back to me. It'll be used mainly used for street use, not to many sand dunes where I live here Western Wisconsin.
