I have decided that I want to have a sandrail/woodsbuggy but I can't figure out what chassis, engine, trans to use. For the chassis I was looking at either the bee line cobra or pro 95 knock-down kits, but although the pro 95 is almost $100 cheaper I have not found any mention of it when I searched it up on google, does anybody know anything about this chassis or have other recommendations. By the way this build will be on an extremely tight budget.

Just for starters, where are you from? Would this be your first buggy? SOMETIMES it's cheaper to find one already done than to build one from scratch.

the pro 95 (aka 295, 952) is one of the most popular frames out there I the woodsbuggy world IMO. really cant go wrong with it. I am not saying its the best or anything, but you see tons of them. I have had 2 of them.

Thanks for all the replies, I think the pro 95 kit is what I will try. Yes this will be my first buggy, and I did consider buying a used buggy, but I can't find many for sale locally in North Carolina, also I was thinking (probably mistakenly) that I could spread out the cost over a while (my time frame is almost a year) and learn useful skills at the same time. Would it help to try getting a salvage car for a donor, or would that make things more complicated?

it still might be worth a drive to pick up a used buggy. Its better to let someone else loose there ass selling a buggy than to spend all your money on building one.

I agree buy a used buggy tear it apart clean fix and paint or whatever make it your own just because there are so many nickle dime items that just kill you in a fresh build I'd hate to see you get discouraged because it'll just seem like your just pouring money into it and not seeing results

Y'all been to Auto Zone lately? 14 ga. wire roll 8.99, rtv 7.99, bulbs 4.99/2,grease tube 7.99, rad clamps 3.99/2, car battery 130.00, oil 5.99 qt. Anti freeze $12, carb cleaner 6.99. Two sacks of nothing is usually $80 and some people's daily pay is $100. It just takes the fun out of building something. Spend your money well and go to Sammy's

I completely agree that it is almost always A LOT cheaper to buy a used buggy and rebuild it than to create one from scratch.

There are a few other things to consider.. How much money are you looking to spend and what do you think it is going to cost to build a buggy?

How mechanically inclined are you?
Do you want a single seater? 2 seater? 4 seater?
What are you looking to do with the buggy? Hills? Trails?

Based on these answers, we can recommend some donor cars and other options for you.

Yeah I have to agree a scratch build might be a bit over my head right now. More than anything this was an idea for something to do over the summer. Originally I planned to make a one seat go kart, but then I decided that I might as well make something that I can actually drive around in. So I decided on a small two seat sandrail
Yes I also relatively mechanically inclined but really since I have never welded, I would probably have had to take it to a local welding shop. And I can't really nail down a definate price as I really only can afford the chassis at the moment, but I would estimate the total cost to be $5000-$7500.

A buggy that would cost you $10,000 to build would cost you $4-5,000 to buy used and hopefully most of the problems will be worked out.

Well then I will probably look at some used rails...... unless I get so bored that I want to make a chassis. Well I'll check back here when I find a good rail. Thanks for all the help.

just one thing when buying a used buggy dont always belive it when they say fresh rebuilt motor.take someone with ya to check it out.

And measuring the stroke thru a spark plug hole with a welding rod is not reliable either.
