I see old Funco's SS2's seem to be popular here so I thought I would bring to your attention a car I saw in Austin TX. It is a Funco SS2 that is still owned by the original owner. The car was bought in the mid '70's to race in class 1 off road racing. The owner is Kenny Hill of Kenny Hill Autoworks in Austin. The frame and original body work is in the back corner of his shop lot. All the good, rare original parts have been stored for years indoors up in the rafters of his shop. He is asking about $750 for everything. I am not connected to him in anyway but he is a nice guy and I told him I would put the word out. All I ask if you buy it to let me have first shot at any old parts you don't need. We are currently restoring a SS2 as well as currently race the well known Bel-Ray Bullet SS2 in vintage Baja racing.

I debated posting this here because I would love to see this car race again, but I am very impressed with MadMikes build which is incredible. If you want something like MadMikes car, here is the perfect starting point!

Here is a link to Kenny's contact information for anyone interested:

I thought I would show you guys what we are doing with old Funco's. If you look at MadMikes build, on the first page you will see the roof panel and rear sail panels. These panels were used to build a tribute car to Bobby Ferro who won everything in the early '70's. Here is a picture of the Ferro SS2 a month ago at the NORRA 1000 which was actually a 1,300 mile race the length of Baja over 4 days. The Ferro car is in front with the Bel-Ray Bullet in the middle with Bud Feldkamp who overalled the Baja 1000 in '75 and '77 and two overall victories in the Baja 500 in this car. The yellow car is a Sandwinder that was restored this year by Steve Rountree in honor of his father, Don Rountree who recently passed away and started Sandwinder. So if one of you guys buys the car above, please give us vintage racers a shot at the old race parts that you may not need and that we have a hard time finding.

Now you know why I was so hesitant on building my Funco for the woods. There is a lot of history in these old cars and I respect that, that's why I gave up the fiberglass roof and sail panels to someone who was restoring one. Part of my logic was if I didn't get the one I have someone else would get it and not really appreciate it and it's history and just toss it together and beat it to death.
If you guys real want to see some awesome work you need to go to https://www.race-dezert.com/home/ and start looking around, most of what's there blows my stuff out of the water.
Really cool stuff lantanatx, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mike.

Here is my build thread of the Malcolm Smith/Bud Feldkamp 1976 Funco SS2 ISS (AKA '76 Bi-Centennial car) which also needs sail panels and a roof panel:

I like how you did where the front beam mounts on the frame
