Right now my buggy is fairly stock. 1600 dp, with a 2 barrel empi 40 carb. I recently added 2 x 3 trailing arms from Appletree and reset the rear torsion. I have a bug trans, and bug cv's. Appletree told me to put in 19 1/4" axles. We didn't put the clips on the axles so they would float a little, they were fairly tight goin in. The first time I drove it, it pulled the axle out of the cv on the right side, closest to the tire. We swapped that cv, and it moved about 10 feet before it pulled out of the other cv, same side. The rightt side now has clips on both ends of the axles, but has no movement. The left side, with no clips, has about 1/4" to 1/2" of movement. I didn't put the clips on the left side, because it has held together so far. Should I install the clips on both sides, and have no movement on the axles? And before you tell me so, I know it all needs to be bus running gear, but unfortunately I don't have that yet. There seems to be a ton of knowledge here, so I thought I'd ask. |

You prolly need shorter axles measure from inside cups at full droop and at parallel and subtract a 1/4" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Make sure your trans is centered good first off. And a shorter axle isnt gonna help. I have 3x3 with 19 1/4 axles and had that happen as well.turned out my tranny mount was all jacked up and trans wasnt centered. Sent from my SGH-T679 using Tapatalk 2 |

blackbeauty wrote: You prolly need shorter axles measure from inside cups at full droop and at parallel and subtract a 1/4" That's NOT right. Proper way to measure axles is when the drive flange and stub axles are level with each other. Measure inside cup to inside cup and subtract 1/4". Full droop means nothing. diamonddav wrote: Make sure your trans is centered good first off. And a shorter axle isnt gonna help. BUT moving the trans isn't always possible so the quick and easy way is to take one of the washers at the inboard pivot, usually both are on the outside by the head of the bolt and put it in between the arm and torsion housing, that will move the arm out by 1/8" or better. If your still having problems then centering the trans is a must. You might also need to shorten the axles some if it still isn't right. Grinding the ends is NOT the right way to do that either. |

If your measurements are good make sure your spring plate stops arent worn causing your swing arm to pivot down too far pulling the axle out of the cv Sent from my SCH-S738C using Tapatalk |

Unfortunately I know the stops are worn. When we reset the torsion the spring plates slide right past the stops and are actually resting on the bolts. Whats the fix for this this? Build up the stops with weld? The stops are worn kinda at an agle allowing the spring plates to slip down. If all that makes any sense. |

I was always told to run the clips on the trans side, I could be wrong but I was told if u don't have the clips in on trans side of shaft that it will pull out of that CV and the outers don't need clips( if I'm wrong someone please correct me), have you checked your measurements with the new arms on the toe should be closer at front of wheels if its wider than your toed out and that could also cause the tightness on your CV shafts, if so like mike said moving that washer could do the trick, if its toed out will also cause horrible control of stearing Sent from my QMV7A using Tapatalk |

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will get the clips on the trans side. We have a place close to home I can ride for a couple hours and bang on it and see what happens. Hopefully goin to Brutons here in the next few weeks. If anybody will be out that way, would love to hook up and ride, long as you don't mind a bike in the mix. |
