Here is what I have done so far, I'm putting a 2.2 ecotech in. I wanted to wait till next winter but my 1835 decided it was time to cover my yard with pieces of pistons and jugs so here we go!!ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImagethe motor is a early 2.2 that I just put a fresh head gasket and timing chain kit in

Cush,
That's a beefy rail, that ecotec aught to move it along nicely. I am loving mine so far....

Looking good Cush,
I had mine out over Memorial Day Weekend, two days and it sipped a third of a tank of gas, better than my 1600. The torque and power are out of this world...

Radiator and fuel tank mounted, tonight I start bending and notching rear cage, wish I had more done by now but its been hard to find time to get in shop and work on it, I'll be using a buddy's JD squared model 4 to bend ImageImageImageImage

Its hard to tell from the pictures. Did you solid mount the radiator to the frame? If so you may want to consider adding a rubber bushing. Heating causes expansion and add some vibration in the mix and you may be prone to cracking. Is it possible it will last...yes, but save yourself some aggravation and give it some room to move.

Its hard to see but there are rubber bushings on the bottom that it sits on and I had washers in top in pic but they were there just while I was welding there getting replaced with bushings also. Thanks

Got a couple hours to work on buggy today, I'm making the rear cage different from how it used to be, Im having the back of the cage come off instead of bottom so I can pull motor directly back to remove instead of dropping it down ImageImageImage

I'll probably do an x on top of cage and add a spare tire mount

Looks great!!! From experience put something strong under the oilpan. I have ran vws for over 30 years in the woods and never busted a block. I busted the oilpan on my eco the 4th day out. They are thin!

Thanks, I bet that was fun did you have to pull the motor to change pan because of how the adapter bolts to pan??? I just cut out a piece of 3\8" aluminum for the skid under the motor.
