Hello I am new to this forum but have been lurking here for a few weeks. But anyway I recently traded for a buggy with a 2.8 Chevy v6 out of a fwd car complete with the fwd trans axle. So after trying to get it running right it now sounds like there might be some bottom end noise coming from the engine. So my question is should I find another 2.8 and swap the engine or just junk the engine set up and do something different all together? Keep in mind I'm on a pretty small budget.

2.8s are real bad for wearing out pistons pins and its sounds a lot like a rod knocking. cut your filter apart and look for bearing material. if no bearing material than run it. ive seen them go a long time like that.

I would be interested to see the Trans set-up and frame. The engine is only one component of the buggy. How is everything else on the buggy. Suspension, steering, shocks, wiring harness, seats, tires & Wheels, etc...

Damit yes a 2.8 chevy is junk, my 2.8 Vr6 2800 will twist out of the frame but do not go vr6. They are to hard to find or up keep. VW went to a Vr5 2500 with just 5 hp less than a 2800 . Foriegn cars are great on rpm and high hp in small packages. I think an ecotech was born in Europe with Opel. Maybe I am confussed. It seems like American cars are big on torque to get the heavies going. I'd like to see this buggy. This is why I am so interested in sharing knowledge.

I'm located in western Ohio. I will try to get some pictures of the buggy and setup this weekend. The rest of the buggy isn't to bad has decent tires and seems to be a pretty good suspension setup. Just want to get this going for the summer so I can take it to haspin and tear stuff up! If I can find another good running 2.8 I would probably good that route because that's what its setup for, otherwise I'm thinking either ecotec or gm 3800 but then I probably would have it ready for haspin this year.

I have a carbureted 3800 GM small chain drive but it is big on muscle but 4500 rpm is max power.(450 lbs with radiator) A Fuel inj. motor may be different. I don't know. Educate yourself on gearing and motor stats.

If I end up changing the whole engine setup I will be going with fuel injection. Its the only way to go in my oppion. carbs are just to finicky and unreliable for steep hills and off camber driving and with fuel injection its just hit the key and go. No having to pump the gas for half an hr. Lol

This is what I'm working with. I have already done a bit of work to it. It was blue and also had some sheet metal that went down from the roof and beside your head that blocked vision to the rear quarter but I chopped all that off and painted it camo . I'm also gonna add some more bracing to the cage and add in a couple roof bars and down bars just for added strength and safety.

Looks like another 2.8 would be least amount of work IMO
