Well I thought I would start My Alpha Fab 2.4 conversion thread. Mine is suppose to ship tomorrow Monday. I have been running air cooled for ever since the early 90's. We started racing with MAORA in 2005 trying to push the 200hp mark. With our air cooled's we were having to get them rebuild every other race and like a lot of people the economy hit us so we started looking for a more reliable power source. So with the ecotec from alpha fab we are getting away from the high compression stretched out vw to a reliable engine that runs on PUMP gas not $10.00 a gallon race gas and if we hand grenade one Alpha fab will ship us a low mileage long block for $800 or we can junk yard one. I will take some photos today of where we are starting from. Stay tuned more to come

We first had to gut and wash the car. It was last raced in Cleaves Oh. and I think we brought half the pea gravel to Wyoming

Well I got the radiator mounted yesterday. I sill have to finish the top pin mounts. I mounted it back from the cab a little. I wanted to get the heat back away and if it springs a leak hopefully it might miss. Always ready for suggestions!

And THE PARTS MAN COMETH Thanks to our good friends at DREWS OFFROAD PERFORMANCE. Now all I need is my engine from ALPHA FAB and some braded fuel hose and ftgs from another supplier and were off to the races. I might be off to the race out of town when the wife gets the cc bill.

Not bad for a turnkey system with adapter.

You could save some pocket cotton by going to the bone yard and pulling your own motor, testing it yourself and doing your own wiring & sourcing your own tune — but you won't find a better price in a kit anywhere. And the stuff is awesome quality. Plus they test everything before sending it out. I have been 100% happy with their support thus far and I would do it again without blinking. Shaun has turned out to be a great guy willing to help anyway he can.

UncleJerm is right You can save some money (maybe) if you sourced one yourself but for me: Time is always in short supply plus nearest junkyard that has on is probably 100miles away. I like the fact that Shaun offers a lot of choices from everything included to just one piece. I built my own fuel sys. but after taking 3 hrs of part searching I should have just bought his ready to go. One other thing I like is I can call Shaun right now and talk to him and he will answer questions for me. Like I said time and convenience for me, I have a race April 6th......and were a long way from getting a leg over this horse.

I got 1 vw vr6 junk yard motor that was silver clean freshly rebuilt. Someone used way too much rtv on the oil pan and valve cover and it clogged the oil pick up screen. Another one had a jumped timing chain but it was fixable. My junkyard wiring harness had 1 copper strand left on a broke wire going to the cam sensor. After a over a year of mis diagnosing I found the culprit when I got a new set of clear glasses. Yes it would be nice to just buy'em ready to go. Pulling a motor out of a wrecked car out in the middle of a field ain't no fun either especially knowing that you are gambling. Always start with a drivable car if you can.

Really sucks pulling them out when the wind chill is below zero too. Or spending all that time to build it up and drive half a day to find the problem in the woods where you cant fix it. If I played locally it would change a great deal of it. More then 5 months of the year to ride would help too. Did we just steal the thread, lol.

I'm able to leverage my relationships with GM and of course GM Tier 1's. It certainly helps being in the "Motor City". I have access to the best lots of low mileage engines. What we provide is a quality, turn-key system w/ a low mileage, bench tested, crate equivelant engine. We do the work for you; bolt-in and go! =)

You don't need a 3.6 lol. I can provide a early 06/07 engine and a Stage II turbo kit that'll push 300-320 to the WHEELS. I can give you LS3 power for 1/2 the price and 1/2 the weight. =) Here is a dyno of our Stage II that I've been working.

Here is a Stage II TURNED UP.

Oh, BTW - these are on STOCK bottom ends. =)

Not bad at all! But not a big fan of Turbo in the woods. That lag can kill you when you are starting off already on hill. On the Dunes it would be a killer setup. Not saying it wont work, just that I'm not sure. Plus I like big stock power for durability vs a race built ( to an extent) engine. Plus then I am looking at a tranny that is getting overpowered compared to what it was designed to handle. Worth looking into though. What is the price of that Monster? Also wanting a FWD auto tranny hooked up to it.

Nitro! are the grapes on the vine too high , so they must be sour? lol. The motor should be plenty big enough for any lag. It would look good with the original automatic. With a 307:1 diff like Passat it should lower all gears and blast thru them all like nobody's business. I wish I had a New Beetle tiptronic automatic 6 speed so I could drive it like a manual if need be. My wife has one in her car. I wish I could swap it out with out her knowing lol.

Well I am at least 2 years out on this, but want to get everything planned as much as I can. The power on that is plenty for what I need.
