Bare with me. I slow at this. http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l61 ... 1376537402 From bus torsion bar center to rear ctr sprocket is 32". Bus to bus c/v's run flat with no angle(never break).40" swampers have over 1.5ft. of travel. Buggy sits staticly about 1/2 way. (about 10" of travel either way). Very soft ride. Buggy is squatting at about 20 inches under the trans. Trailing arms are made of stacked 1"x6" hard aluminum ($11/ft). Bus torsion is shaved 1/8" down to desired thickness with a Dewalt hi speed grinder 11 years ago. Basic rancho shocks. NO un commanded wheelies you'd get from a heavy w/c. Very sturdy cornering. The frame does not roll side to side like a real chain drive. And definitely won't outdo most, but it has a mix of all buggies. Maybe I should call it the mixed breed. lol. It has vw bus , vanagon stock clutch 230 mm and 483 trans w/4 diff, beetle type 3 front end, jeep radiator and fans,ford carb , buick motor bored 30 over with flat top pistons, 8.8 c.r., and big valve heads off some sporty model 3800. Everything I build is out of the junkyard pretty much, but works. And loves 90 octane NON ethanol fuel you put in boats. It has a small noticeable difference over 93 ethanol gas. |

But any way from lt to rt a beetle axle(15"), goes into a stock bus c/v,then it has 3/8 bolts onto a bus stub axle. It is welded to a 14 tooth sprocket and then a 1 3/16" hole is bored thru them both. A $10 solid bronze bushing 1 1/2" long (40k lb. load tested), is heat shrunk into that bore and it all rides together on a 1" diameter "Grade 8 steel" cut off bolt that is pressed into the aluminum block with two 1/4" steel side plates. The block is adjustable 1.5" for chain slack. The rear sprocket is only 20 tooth.(about 7" in dia.). I normally stay in 2nd for climbing but some times I use 1st for slow climbs. Today I finally grooved my beloved tires that I so hated to do but have to do for that upcoming Biscuit Mt. Event. I got the grip this time, so don't slow down and get used for traction. lol Oh yeah... Gear oil is filled in the c/v boot and it keeps the bronze bushing lubricated. |

The rear sprocket is welded to a bus stub axle with bus bearing housing and front GM calipers. I used 2 old outer bus c/v's for a spacer between the sprocket and the stub axle. The Ford 2 barrel off a 351 V8 and NEVER burps sputters or misses in all crazy angles, so I don't need fuel injection or propane. Check out how the anti freeze jug is dwarfed by the ground clearance. I sure hope Biscuit mtn is washed out ruts and gouged out rocks. |

http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l61 ... CF6228.jpg Outer tire edge to outer tire edge is 79" with the TSL 40's. Front rims made from GM trunk spare with the center cut out and spokes fabed up inside. Home made headers work and sound much better than the Sanderson store boughts. |
