Post subject:  First Buggy Protech Rebuild

Well this is my first buggy and my first post on here. I'be seen a lot of awesome builds on here, but I'm trying to do mine on a tight budget. I'm starting with a Protech (sp) short back that I bought from a guy I work with for $100. After some searching for a good VW engine with no luck I decided to go water cooled and found a lot of people did the 2.0 pinto swap. I did some searching on CL and found a 2.0 out of a 72 Pinto about 45 min away for $75 so I jumped on it. I cleaned up the engine and put all new gaskets and seals in it and got it ready to go. I did some searching and found a guy with a brand new 25 year old pinto beans adapter kit with the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel for $140 shipped. Like I said I'm trying to build this thing on a budget but not cut any corners and do it right! I wont bore you guys with the rest of everything so ill bring on the pictures!

When I got it home minus the radiator.

And my $100 T Trailer I picked up off Craigslist yesterday! I have to finish getting all the paint off, put in new frame horns, build a rear cage and motor mounts, ball joints, cv boots ,order my seats, paint and wire it and ill be done!

Center console lockup its not perfect but it will suit me good.

It had 6 different colors of paint on it, most of it is knocked off by this point.

Wow! The pics remind me of me about 30 + years ago. Keep chugging. Don't let California rip you off thru the years.

Thanks, how old do you think it might be? I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of summer.
