AC vs WC
Although I have never drove a buggy with a large displacement AC engine. GO WATERCOOLED

I have had the chance. Davehix told me to take his for a ride this last summer at the Ville. I declined. I believe it was the same night his engine decided to let it's guts out the top of the block. Don't get me wrong the engine was due but that would have just been my luck. Some how someday mine will be WC.

I am sorry about jacking the mans thread. When I see a bare frame like that one I am like an artist with a blank canvas imagining the monster it could be with a bone stock Subie, echo-tec, or a nice Air compressor on the back.

I do wish the dude the best of luck the frame has a ton of potential in bare metal. We all started some where. My first AC was a 36 hp single port, my last was a fire breathing 2800 Porche 914 engine. I like to read about the purist that are still stuck in the 20 th century. But say what you want the first Baja 1000 was run in an air cooled bug or buggy for bragging rights.

You got a point but i was at work when I wrote that and it was just to mess with you wc guys. 8) I like messing with you guys as much as you guy mess with me. I
Could never be serious talk smack on wc. I ride with a few very nice and dependable wc buggys . But I was being serious when I said its the best bang for the buck.the cheap ass comment was just pissing around and if I offended anyone good lol   but if you want a good running buggy and don't want to spend 4 grand go wc.

If ur serious about buying my 2.2 off of me once I get my 2.5 and put it on I will def give u first dibs. the whole wc. Ac. thing is funny. I've got to ride in some bigger displacement ac buggies and I would love to go that route I love the power that they make and how much they have coming straight outta the whole. there def mean.

yea the ac wc thing can get interesting  ive never rode in a wc or had the pleasure of riding in a big displacement either  1641 is the biggest ive had so far i am interested in the subie, but i was wandering what ppl thought of a 2.8 out of my camaro would do?? its only got 54,000 miles on it i know they make adapters for the 3.1 which is the same as the 2.8. im gonna swap that out for a 383 stroker, so ill have the wiring harness and computer?? if i dont go that route and someone wants it ill sell it so i can get a 3 rib

just saw the opportunity to rub it in and steal a thread. The Passat set up don't need a bus trans, 4 spyder diff, a 35-45 year old 3-6 rib case,or clutch and adapter kit,and uses it's own starter, clutch, slave cyl, internal oil cooler, fuel injection and ignition system.ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! :P And the shifter is two (out of the car) 5 ft.cables running to a shifter handle.Just bolt it to the floor and yer done.

I knew I'd hear from you passat  I'm still on the fence I love my aircooled I don't have to worry about blowin a head gasket or a rad, but in the same breath u can't beat the cheap power u get from water cooled I'm gonna stay aircooled for now for my new buggy and might try watercooled on the one I'm drivin now  I guess I can't knock it till I try it

The cool thing about a Water Cooled engine with a factory ecu is that it will shut down or go into limp mode before it blows a head gasket or before it seizes up from oil starvation. They also have factory rev limiters and when it starts running funny you plug into the OBD II port and it tells you what is wrong.

I do not miss cleaning and tuning carbs but I must admit I didn't have much trouble once I changed the factory dellorto jet holders out for the jet doctors from CB performance.

A 1641 will provide much enjoyment and you will climb plenty if hills with a three rib bus trans or a older IRS car trans with a supper diff. You will never know the difference until you ride in or drive a car with a stroker or water cooled engine.

Kind of like a VW bus seems fast until you ride a moped.
