it's a sand sprite .sand sprite 2,s where rear engine also but no you had to use coil overs. sand sprite 3 was the first mid engine frame. every thing after that was more or less mid-engine.

Can't do it. If I go back AC then ill have $3000 in a motor cause I have to buy all
New parts. Compared to the cost of watercooled, price per hp is really cheap. Plus mines just a beer buggy.
I just want no maintenance cause I work seven days a week. I don't have time to work on carbs and valves. Lol

Thanks Barron. What kind of HP and torque can I expect?
Will I be able to run a 6 rib without problems?

I also found a 2.0 Mitsubishi out of a Hyundai Elantra.
What all do I need besides the wire harness and computer?

Chris, I don't know much about the echo tech engine but I know the stock internals can support up to 800 hp. I had the pleasure of riding in a friends Cobalt ss and it was unreal.

I run a Honda J32 series V6 it weighs about the same as the echo tech and makes 240 hp for the standard and the type S makes 265 to 275 depending on year.

With either choice there are trade offs. AC cars have a better weight basis with a rear engine. That being said running a 3x3 rear trailing arm moving, battery, tools, beer up front helps as well. My last rail was built cab foreword to my my large frame further forward.

You are very correct with $ per hp formula. WC is the least expensive but if you plan to do a lot of serious hill climbing then even a mild AC engine is probably going to make you the happiest. If you plan a health mix of trail, street and hill climbing like me then WC is the way to go. You will put half as much gas in your tank to go the same distance as the guy running the AC with no stops to adjust the carb.

The absolute best part is turn the key and it fires no cranking and cranking. Best of luck dude. If you need help with radiators, fans, fuel pumps pm me or search this site. A lot of great echo tech swaps.

Thanks again Barron. I sit forward on the buggy being its a 4 seater. My feet almost touch the tierods. I'm mostly trailriding watching all the big VWs play but like to climb the occasional hill. LoL

I think the echo tech is the way to go then you will be ok with the extra weight, just look at my war wagon.

I just bought a 2001 cavalier for $500. I'm gonna try and sell the other parts off the car to try and get the money back. Do I have to flash the computer and strip the harness? If so is it hard to strip or is it better to send it off somewhere?

You will need to flash the ECU and there are some guys that do it listed on this site just search for echo tec. Striping the harness is not hard with a good wirng diagram. You will be removing the stuff that a buggy doesn't use like a body control unit for AC and instrument cluster. You can also send it to the guy that does the computer in some instances.

They will also remove the immobilizer, security, speed/ trans sensor if it was an automatic trans car.

IS THERE ANYWHERE IN TUSCALOOSA TO GET THE ECU FLASHED? THE CAVALIER I BOUGHT DIDN'T HAVE A KEY SO I DRILLED OUT THE IGNITION SWITCH SO I COULD TURN IT WITH A SCREWDRIVER. BUT THE VATS ARE KEEPING THE ENGINE FROM TURNING OVER. I THEN JUMPED THE SOLENOID AND IT STARTED BUT FOR ABOUT TWO SECONDS THEN SHUT OFF LIKE THE VATS SHUT THE FUEL OFF TO IT.

The wiring harness you have a few options. "Turnkey" $1200, "CBM (Custom Built Motors)" $1000, and "ELECTRIC WIND,LLC" $1000 all sell harness and ecu's for the ecotec. These ecu's are are delphi mefi 4 which are small and tunable. Also by buying the ecu from these guys if you want to install cams or turbo you can just send the ecu back and they can reflash it with there tune then plug it back in and go. These come with fan relays and have a few wires all labeled to where to plug in and fire up the engine. Also they have there own tune they use which gives you around 175 hp. I have 2 buddys who went with turnkeys setup and they work fine. I used the stock harness and ecu from the 2003 Cavalier. I sent them to Enginewiring.com where they made the harness a very simple labled wire hook up just like turnkeys with fan relays and also flashed the ecu so it would work in my buggy. I also had them set my fan temp to 185 deg. and the rev limiter to 7000 rpm. It cost me $495 for everything done and shipped back to my door a couple weeks later. Now I only have the stock hp since Im still running the stock tune. But its really not that noticable of a difference.
