I wanted to add some extra support to my roll cage to improve the stregth in the event of a roll. I tacked it up using some straight bars and the boss (wife) did not like it. She wanted to the bars to be bent to match the rest of the buggy. Using my new "affordable bender" (see sponsor page). I was able to add some extra support that match the rest of the buggy. I still have a few more bars to add but I wanted to share my progress. The bender is super easy to use and works great. I like it so much and it so easy to use, I am going to build side rails for my Jeep and a new front bumper for the buggy. Big span between the front windshield bar and the top roll bar Added another top bar Added a mid-span support attached to the top bar |

That looks realy nice. Having done some racing in sprint cars, I have seen what roll cages do when they are tumbled down a race track at speed.....It looks alot like a woods buggy tumbling down a mountain.....Safety is #1 and extra cage support ranks pretty high in my book....Its one of the first things I'll be doing to mine once I get it home....Nice lookin 4 seater by the way. May I ask about your windshield mounting system? I'm pretty sure I want to add a windshield to my buggy but I wasn't sure how you guys were going about that task.....screwing on a sheet of lexan is simple enough, but it scratches up to easily, so I'm thinking auto glass, but wasn't sure if I'd have to weld in a mount and have the local glass guy custom cut one, or what yet. I saw a roll of rubber trim thats suppose to mount somehow to a roll bar, but I'm not sure how that system works yet......So I'd love to know how yours is mounted. |

thanks for the comments.. I agree, safety needs to come 1st. I am going a add another cross bar behind the driver and passenger seat and then put an X on the new cross bar. As for the windshield, mine is street legal and requires Auto Safty Glass. It has worked great and only broke once when my son punched it when a CV broke during a hill climb race. ( I created a pattern out of foam board and took it to a local glass shop and they cut it out for me. You can buy the rubber seal from most buggy shops. The rubber seal is simple to install and it is made to fit into a 1 1/2 tubeing. I then added some aluminum strips on the top and bottom of the rubber for some extra support. Send me a PM when you are ready to make the pattern and I can give you some more details. |
