Hello everyone. New to the forum and new to buggies. I just picked up a used frame and a homemade buggy with a good motor and drivetrain. I will probably have a lot of questions and problems as I get started.
First question.
The frame is set up for IRS, the homebuilt has whatever the other type is called since it's not a solid rear. Is the IRS the way to go on a first build or would it be better to cut the rear off and move the one form the home buil over to that frame?

Welcome...... IRS is the way to go over a swing axle .

I just need to find a set of trailing arms without breaking the bank.
Trying to find detailed pics of how the IRS works. I'm not sure how it goes together and how to mount the top of the shocks. I'm thinking I need to weld a boss on the frame for it.
The previous owner has already cut the curved parts off that had the bump stops on them and I assume the shock mounts also.
He did a great job of setting it up and putting in bracing, put me way ahead in the game.

the irs is better than the swingarm the trailing arms has 1 large allen bolt to frame 3 bolts in the spring plate its pretty simple when you see pics you also need to check the frontend you have a kingpin on the red buggy need to see if the other one needs kingpin or balljoint because balljoint beams are about 2 inchs wider but good luck with your build

The other one that came with the buggy is a ball joint. I'm gonna pull the one on the red buggy and move it over.
I've already got a steering box with a flat mount so I can do a center steer. It has the aluminum tie rods and heavy duty tie rod ends.
Are the axles different on an IRS and a swingarm rear? Do I need CV joints on both ends?
Still trying to find some actual pictures in detail of an IRS without the motor installed. Any ideas where I can find any? That may help with a lot of my questions. I'm pretty much a visual creature.

Do yourself a favor and buy a Bently VW Manual It ain't cheap, but you won't go to bed with a headache either. Good luck with your project.

if that frame had a bljoint the your kingpin wont fit and look at my friends buggy picks here it shows the axles and cv's

Sure it'll fit. I've got a sawsall and a big welder, Anything will fit.
I measured the frame, no problem at all.
I didn't see any pics of your friend's buggy.
