Post subject:  Chain Drive and Auto Trans Questions

This may be the wrong area to post this, and if so I apologize, but I have a couple questions on chain drives. I guess the main question I have is how wide are they on average, outside to outside rear tires? My other question is who can I talk to about possibly building one, or giving some advice on a build?

Another question is, if I don't go chain drive, what would be a strong, reliable driveline that uses a fully automatic transmission? Has to be fully auto because I'll be driving with hand controls (I'm a quadriplegic), and has to have power steering.

The buggy will be used for hills at Wellsville and my house, my hunting buggy or "treestand on wheels", as well as being a trail beater if it's not to wide.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Good advise Steve, buy something already done. Unless you have an unlimited supply of cash and in your case several friends that are above average in mechanical and fabrication, building from scratch wouldn't be advised. I MIGHT have some old hand control parts laying around here somewhere you might be able to use.

Stevo, that sounds good to me. Is it listed on here or ?

MadMike, thanks but I have already built my controls. Actually my 2nd set of my design. The 1st is going in my 29 Dodge hot rod. A full build/fab isn't that big of a deal to me but it would be nice to buy a completed, running buggy instead, and just make changes that are needed. I can understand doubts about a quad building a buggy, but being a mechanical engineer with a fully set up garage and machine shop helps.

Again, thanks for the help and thoughts/suggestions.

No doubts here, I advise all buggy newbee's to buy a finished car and go at it from there. Sounds to me you have the right attitude, motivation and equipment to do anything you want. You probably would give some able bodied folks I know a run for their money (pardon the pun).

Rock he lives down this way. He is one heck of a fabricator. He built his chassis from scratch and one other one so far. I must say they are bad ass.
