The build has started in earnest so I thought I'd post up a few pics.

The idea is to add a LOT more bracing and a true roll hoop and the rear end will be modified to take a 012 transaxle..

Hey if you're gonna stand in front then you'll not be wrong for long.
Ambulance for the flat bloke!

Martin's gonna take a while on this 'cause I've just stolen all his spare money for shiny bits
He's coming back Tuesday, wonder if I can shift that old rotary engine too :P

You're not far off with your bracing Phillip, although I'm planning cut off the top and install a full roll hoop and steeper A pillars. The only other difference being the addition of a horizontal brace at the front..

Anyone know what model the exhaust is? I can't see it on any Tri Mill lists.. looks like a turbo header

It's a highly technical program which is a trade secret, if I told you, I'd have to kill you...

Got ours back together Saturday night in a rush and put too much preload on the torsion bars, bloody thing didn't stop banging against the droop stops all Sunday - see what happens without a little furry supervisor! - still won our class though :D

We've upgraded to a rabbit now anyway.

Just to ease the confusion of anyone else reading this thread as to what we're talking about

When I removed the fan shroud I disturbed a very unhappy field mouse that had been hibernating in there.. :D

So your replacing that field mouse for a rabbit. SPCA will have you by the short ones.

Back on track... :)...

Found the reason for the knock..

Number 4 spun bearing..

I've now had two people look at the crank and rods and both have said they're junk :( the crank is a counterweighted welded VW unit thats been reground to 82mm stroke and the rods are stock VW but clearanced.
They've both said to go to a 1 piece crank and forged rods.. all out of my price range :(

If you're gonna break something, may as well break it properly

Got the new passat transmission, supposedly rated to 350Nm.. this has almost identical ratios to a type 1 trans, it even came with a clutch slave cylinder.. and it cost me £50! thats about $80..

Only downside being that the starter is a block hugger! my plan is to mount it in the top of the bellhousing when I make my adaptor plate..

Started on the new roll hoop and diagonals..

Out with the old..

In with the new..

The tubing is 1.5" x 0.090" seamless Clubman 500

I reckon that the hoop and those diagonals are the only really difficult transitions, they took hours to get right with hand tools..
