Yeah, well, not this time. There is way to much that would need to change to make this trans work. The drive flanges are closer to the bell housing on the Subie putting them behind some tubing that's not easily moved so it's back to plan A, time to put a fork in this build, almost 41,000 views says it's time.

Mike,
You may not even need the section of tubing that is blocking
your axles. The transmission bell housing is usually attached
at the top AND at the bottom, which serves as a part of the
structural integrity of the frame. I have never heard of a bell
housing cracking because it was used as a structural member.

Will you be able to get it in the woods this year Mike?

I'm going to say not this year. I'm going to try to, but there is a bunch going on now.

I'm dealing with a 76 yo juvenile delinquent who cheese has slipped off his cracker in dealing with this building. He's like 0bama, if his lips are moving, he's lying, says one thing, does something else. One lesson in futility after another.

My trans was the same way. I tried a 6 rib with a 3 rib bell and a 6 rib iwht a 6 rib bell and neither fit right to the mounts that were in the frame from when it was built. All I could htink was it was designed for a 5 rib or something. Needless to say, I moved the bell housing mounts to accommodate and ended up with a 6 rib with 6 rib bell and used an adapter for a TDI starter (which although it is larger, it is less dense than the little hi-torques for all the weight freaks).

Hi MadMi
I've been watching your latest project and since I don't know exactly what you're doing, because I'm new at this. If you don't mind me asking.
I'm just curious how much $ Money your Buggy will end up costing at the end, because every thing you do looks NEW and high
Quality and looks like you've been doing this a long time. Thanks.

AS a rule, I never keep receipts, I really don't want to know what I've spent on any project.

Some years ago I did a restoration on an old Chevy, kept all the receipts in a boot box. When the build was finished I started to count the receipts, when I got to $30,000,and there was a bunch more to go, I quit and threw them all away.

Being able to build most everything myself is a huge bonus, if I couldn't build this stuff I'd be building bird houses or something retarded like that instead.

I have been trading, upgrading and adding to my buggy for years. If you were to ask my wife, my buggy is still worth around $4500 and I am going to stick with that story. LOL.. No, I will not sell if for that.

I couldn't agree more Mike. My first project car went like that and i never counted again. Usually when people ask me what what my buggy cost to build I say "More than a used truck and less than a new one"... It is so much less painful to build a buggy when you don't try and count unless it is with a measuring tool.

That's pretty funny about the wife, I have the same problem here.
I wish there was a parts supplier locally here in Western Wisconsin but there's not.
Every thing shipped out of state and the wife always intercepts the credit card bill before I do.
