Not enough room to run both. The spot on the arm where the coil over is sitting is at 9" of travel on the arm. Both the bag and the shock have a 10" stroke so both would have to live at the same place, not enough room.
There is no doubt about liking the air bags from first hand experience so doing both is kinda pointless. The coil overs I had on the front of my other car were unreal in handling and all that, I'm thinking on doing this all different than the last one. When I get both arms done I will look at it and decide which to do. Coil overs are the way I'm leaning right now.

if you had to buy a spare which would it be?

The cheapest to replace is the air bag, obviously . I've never broke a coil over, don't know anyone who has. I haven't broke an air bag either, don't know anyone breaking one on a buggy. All I know is I have 2 bought and paid for coil overs that I'll never get out of them what they are worth. $320 finishes the deal, with the bags I need to spend $400+ to do it right. Should have considered them from the start. I can build a real cool 4 link air ride trailer with the bags.

The air bag-coil over decision has been made for me. Running some preliminary numbers for spring rates there is no way to run a 10" stroke coil over on a arm that is as long as I'm intending on running. In fact they don't make heavy enough springs to match the needed spring rate.
So if you really wanted to see an air bag build, looks like that's what it's going to be.
Coil over trailer anyone???????????????????

I forget exactly, something like 1200# main and 750# tender. And it looks like either a 14" or a 16" stroke shock. Somewhere around 20" of travel, will be able to sit 4" into the suspension and still have 16" of ride height with 33" Boggers.

 Thats alot! I know it would work fine with 12" shocks, but 10"s are pushing it. Bags will be cool anyway!

Your fab skills still keep me in awe. I love the shifter. It reminds me of the one I had to build to clear my seat but is waaaaay prettier & much more complex  It's what I wish I had the skill to build.

Time for an up date. Got the structures of both arms finished, gusseting, outboard pivot connection, shock mount and air bag pivot are next.

I bought a hydraulic knock out punch some time ago and almost forgot about it. Made some dimple dies for it.

That's it for now, more to come as time permits.

Lookin like a A+ to me! I like the dimple dies! What is that inside the bearing housing? is that just for jigging the arms?

I think it’s to stop the bearing carrier from warping when welded.

I see you know about the anchent woodsbuggy tradition that taping your nuts to your buggy while installing your trailing arms brings good luck.
