Finishing up the rear. Rear Cage is almost done. Now I need to box in my skid plate. Started on Plumbing as well. The air filter is from a New Holland Tractor. It has a precleaner as well. Not bad for $85.00 with filters. Thank You Ebay!

Also started figuring out fuel filter and pump mounts. I am putting in a fuel surge system in as well since I don't have a sump (and on these tanks they don't help much anyway) but I don't have the canister yet.

No offense taken. I only get to take 2 weekend trips a year or so of off-roading and the rest is street driving so I was more worried about it being comfortable than an all out racer. It's no lightweight, but the power to weight ratio should be comparable to my old lighter buggy (which was still heavy, but fast enough for trails IMO) that had about 60 less horsepower and 70 less pound feet. Two people can still lift the whole bare chassis (barely) off the ground. If I am under (or at) 2500lbs. I am happy. Give me about a week or so and I will know for sure.
Here is my best guess (plus a little to be safe)...
Bare Chassis... 800lbs.

Front and Rear
Suspenson and tires 400lbs.

Engine and Trans 500lbs.

Electrical boxes
and battery 120lbs.

Fuel Tank 10 gal 75lbs.

Winch 100lbs.

Misc. 200lbs.

Seats 60lbs.

Two People 400lbs.

Total 2605lbs.

And the weight tally is in. I borrowed my buddies race scales. 2650 Loaded. :shock: I was less worried about that though when I checked the percentages and saw that I built a buggy completely by eye that scales in at 65% Rear 35% Front :D Gotta replace a spring on each coil-over. Need to go to 400 lb bottoms in rear (was 300) and 200 lb bottoms in Front (was 150) to get the droop back where I want it. Was about 2 inches (currently 5). And the engine is a torque monster compared to my VW (not trying to offend). Sub Box and Floors are Rhino Lined now as well but no pics yet... but soon... Be at Haspin this weekend testing it out...

Christmas came late this year.... (About a week before memorial day at Haspin)

New Avery's 5x5 arms and Racetrim Micro Stubs. Axles went from 19.25 to 25" long now. Buggy has 19.5" under the engine skid plate now at ride height (23.5 at full droop). Also switched from 15" wide tires on 12" beadlocks to 12" wide V-lugs on 9" beadlocks so buggy isn't any wider than with old setup. Avery's Jigged the arms specifically for my torsion (since I tilted it up) so camber at ride height is dead perfect). Top notch people to deal with.

Also got Tatum Front brakes new street wheels and Tires and 5.90 V-lugs for front beadlocks

Tested it all at Haspin on Memorial Day. It walks through a 2ft wash-rut without sloshing your beer. Front brakes are amazing for steep descents. Had a BLAST. Looking forward to the August Hill Climb!!!

Thanks. It's like a Cadillac in the Trails. :D I am DEFINITELY going to the Hill Climb. Should Have 4 or 5 more buggies with me as well.

Thanks. I have 2.5 Jobs actually. I think "Tyler Durden" did all the work while I was sleeping... :shock: It's not that bad of an investment. I know people who have spent more $$$ on DUI's than I spent on this buggy so I consider it a "healthy addiction". :lol:

Look up "weather pack connector" on EBAY. Bulk assortments are actually pretty reasonable for the reliability you get out of them. I think it was about $125 investment to do my entire buggy. I plan to redo the electrical boxes out of aluminum with 30 pin bulk head connectors this winter. Lose 30 lbs. at least just on the boxes and simplify the wiring even more. I made the boxes out of "free steel". That is a term for the steel that was being made at the time I needed some which doesn't always translate to the lightest steel. :mrgreen:

Tried a bunch of things for a shifter support and everything kept wanting to bind in 2nd and 4th. Came up with this. Rear poly trailing arm bushing fits over a sweet u joint nice and smooth. I took a piece of pipe of the same diameter as the u joint and welded it over the shifter shaft to the u joint for a nice long area to slide through the bushing. It supports it while flexing enough to prevent any binding. Shifts like glass.

In the end...

I had to remake the exhaust and modifythe rear of the skid plate.

Moved fuel cell up about 5".

Radiator cleared thankfully.

Reworked Skid Plate under trans.

Not bad all in all, but I have a roomy chassis. I could see it becoming a nightmare in a small buggy.
