And the beginning of the next buggy. I'm going to put the beam from the buggy on here and keep it all in one piece just to make it easy to move around.

Kris, a suggestion for welding on tabs. I usually will use a piece of angle iron long enough to go across the frame then clamp the tabs to it then they are level with the frame. You can use a piece of wood also. just a suggestion. |

It's actually in pretty good shape, I hate to sell it for scrap. The giant red patch has a lot of bondo there, but not much else wrong with it. If I had room to keep it, I might use it for a Baja one day. But right now I just don't have the space and the wife is itching for it to be out of the yard. I might just leave it on the trailer and throw a tarp over it for now. Out of sight out of mind

Mr. Kris's junk and consignment. Now you are getting into the hobby. I remember my first donor car it sat behind my shed for 6 years. Just three short years longer than the first marriage lasted. Maybe she should have let me keep it. A blue tarp and something sparkly for her and she will not care. But seriously just list it on here and the Samba and it will be gone to a new home. Old bugs and buses make great storage. I have an old Ford conversion at my hunt camp. Took the axles out and set it on the ground. It make a great place to keep my dog food. |

Still kicking around the idea of keeping the bug for a later project. I was out of town all day yesterday visiting family in South Alabama. Most of today was spent cleaning up so it doesn't look like a junkyard since we have her family over tomorrow. But I did make a little progress. I told her the best way to clean it all up was to go ahead and mount it on the buggy. I don't think she bought it.

Then I'll pull the brake hard lines from the bug and put them in the place of the broken ones on the buggy. Some simple wiring just to get it to crank and then see if she'll move under her own power. Your wife would vote for madness. I see it as mechanical therapy. Kind of like my wife's retail therapy. My wife does love the buggy and riding in the woods. It is a labor of love. |

Well, it's put together very well so it will hold up to a 2 year old for at least an hour or so. I used extra tape to secure all of the cardboard tabs in all the slots to keep it from folding up while he is playing in it. The only problem is, now it won't fit through the doors. Kind of like building a boat in the basement

Well, it's time to go back to work and I didn't get as much done as I had wanted to. I did get it cranked today but ran into a few more issues. It won't stay running when I let off the throttle. I let it warm up good, but it still dies when I let off. I guess maybe the carb needs some adjusting or cleaning. The trans seems to be stuck in gear. When the engine is running, the CV flanges on the transaxle are turning forward. The shifter feels like it moves through the gears, but the clutch lever won't budge. It would move the throwout bearing fine when it was apart. I'll pull the engine again and see what's going on. There seems to be a knock in the engine. Sounds like a rod bearing. Just my freakin' luck. I'm about ready to throw in the towel and say the hell with it. Sell it for whatever I can get for it and maybe get a running one sometime down the road. |

dont give up man. I know it sucks im staring down the same road but a running motor is cheaper than a running buggy. youve done a great job so far. com'on man youre a rocket scientist this is nothing for you. as long as the block and crank arent completely trash this is an easy fix. are far as the trans how are you trying to operate the lever? if not with the pedal or atleast some leverage you wont be able to move it. the trans has enough friction inside that it will turn the flanges even in neutral. |
