I found out something today while working on my rail and i thought i would pass it along. When i was tring to put my fuel tank in i noticed i couldn't tighten one of the tank straps up because the tank was hitting the starter.Fortunatly i have a IMI high tourqe starter and i figured out that i can clock it around for more clearence,i did not know these starters had this option.

That is true,i also believe it useless to build a big motor and not have the right gearing.I had a malibu with a 383 in it and it would'nt hardly get out of its own way until i put gears in it,but a set of gears for a car is only $200,a 16 rib cost $3000.I love big horsepower and im going to try and get every bit that i can out a 2332 for now and just go ride.If i cant climb a hill that someone else does i will congratulate them and finish my beer :D

So the 16 rib is no b/s I have heard bout it but never was told it was a real thing.

He's talking about a 6 rib with an aftermarket gear set installed.

Yeah i over exaggerate a built 6 rib a bit,but i gotta say that the porta-band saw cut the KP spuds off with the quickness.Im buying one soon as i can.Ive sent the money for my wheel adapters, gotta weld the BJ spuds on,buy calipers and do the normal little things and im ready.By the way i have been doind some research on calipers and i cant find the wilwood knockoffs any cheaper than $139 and they are at Drews.hell i can buy the real wilwoods cheaper than that. Can someone tell me where i can find the knockoffs for less than the real thing?

Im going to buy the real deal.Ive always used to run Nissan calipers but those were always in lightwieght 1 seaters and they never let me down, but now im in a little bit heavier buggy and will be hauling my son most of the time so i want it to be as safe as i can get it,plus there is nothing wrong with buying quality parts, especially for where we take these things.

Wilwoods are better, but I used to run Sentra calipers on that buggy, and they did just fine. I switched to teh Wilwoods about 6 months before I sold it to ya, because I kept having brake problems after replacing the Sentra calipers with brand new ones, and when I put the Wilwoods on I still had the same problem. It turned out to be a bad master cylinder, that was only 2 months old. I agree with buying the best of the best, but if you're on a tight budget go ahead with the Sentras, they never let me down. Charlie has been runnin em for years too. But, those arms I left on the buggy already have mounts for the Wiliwood calipers. Just my two cents. Get that beast done, let's ride! :D

summit racing has 4 piston brake calipers on sale right now made by ssbc for 89.95 a piece. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SSB-A22173/?rtype=10
i haven't used them on a buggy yet but my uncle runs them on his drag car and loves em. i plan on using them on my new subaru stalker fox coilover buggy build. i would get the comp s calipers instead of the comp r because the comp r doesnt have dust seals. the only downfall is they wont ship til march 12th but i live right down the street from them.

That is a hell of a deal plus it includes the pads and hardware. Thanks for the heads up Mjb600.Now i dont want people thinking i think knockoffs are a bad caliper, but they are called knockoffs,so they should be priced like a knockoff product.

I talked to Brain Drew he said $100 for knockoffs. just say you saw it on woodsbuggy. They are $119 normally. He said they are sorry if you where priced $139 .

Has anyone ever rebuilt a high torque IMI starter? This damn thing worked on my last buggy and now it decides it just wants to click,i have beat on it a little and nothing,i took it off and it clicked a few times and then finally started to spin over, but when i stuck it back on it just clicked again. Ive checked the battery, all connections. Any ideas???

Just take the solenoid apart and sand, clean the contact disk, use dielectric grease to coat the contact areas.
Reasemble and seal it up good.

The grease is just to slow down corrosion. It should work if you cleaned the disk, check the other contacts too.

Well if this damn starter would work,i would just have to get some front tires and tune the motor in.Im gonna take it back apart and do all i can to it and if no luck,i'll get a new one.So hopefully it will be running this weekend.

ok,i took the starter back apart and sanded the contact points a little and basically cleaned it up,now the POS is acting like i have it wired up wrong, when i try to put the positive cable on the battery,it sparks and is causing the battery to boil, plus i dont have any warning lights working now or my fans or headlights. It has killed everything. If it wasn't for Dakota and larry id burn it to the ground.Does anybody have any ideas before i lose control.

I dont know what i done but it is working now.I probably over reacted a bit but damn this buggy was half way complete and it has kicked my ass finishing it up and it has been mostly parts that have given me the most trouble. I plan on being at D&K next weekend so everybody wish me luck.

 Damn, Bucky! You just tryin too hard. Or sumthin. Glad you got the starter thing lined out. Dont burn it down, Kokos misses it. Says he's gonna buy it back for when his friends wanna ride if you decide to let go of 'er. (He gonna have to cut a BUNCH of tires for that  )
