The first question somebody needs to answer is whats that beam out of?? Ive never seen one like that. It doesnt look like it can take a beating.

What are you looking to use it for? Trails, sand, street, hillclimbing? This answer affects a lot.

How thick is that floor & is there round tubing under it & at the sides? I couldnt tell from the pic. The swing axle wont take a beating climbing hills but it will take trails fine. That beam might be OK for trails, I just have never seen one. The gas tank is fine & it looks like the engine is complete. Does it turn over or is it locked up? For a first buggy to learn on its got potential but for hard abuse it would need a ton of rework.

The floor is thick, I would say 1/4 of an inch thick, it has round tubing on the sides and a X-brace underneath. Yeah the engine will turn over, Im just so sure about the Transmission. The piece that connect into the engine looks like it might not catch inside the engine, but I could be wrong. I really would like to get tha floorpan out and get some Diamond plate and some expanded metal for the floor.

One of my bigger questions is: where does that suspension come from.

I think it looks like a pan buggy with a cage. And the front end? Maybe some sort of odd Ball Joint setup?

Too bad you werent on here 3 months ago. I gave away 4 swing axles to a buddy. They may have been worth the shipping. Yours is probably OK. I would flush the fluid well & refill it. Soak the moving parts everywhere with PB Blaster or similar. It looks like its been sitting a long time & this may keep from tearing rubber boots & it will free up stiff parts. Chances are the seals may leak in that tranny but I wouldnt waste time on that till you know its good. Same goes for the boots. Id pull the plugs out of the engine & fill the cylinders with Marvel mystery oil & let it sit. Every couple days Id rotate the crank & repeat. This may allow this motor to fire up by loosening the rings & cleaning rust off the cylinder walls. I would buy a new oil pump to put in since its cheap & can be reused if the engine knocks. If it runs but smokes a cylinder kit is cheap. I would try to use what you have before replacing parts. Id soak that carb in mystery oil as well. I have run several of those without a rebuild even after sitting 20 years. That generator probably still works just get a new regulator. The clutch should be fine as well. Soak the pedal assy with PB & loosen em up. While all this is going on start cutting out the floor & grinding it smooth. Look in the build section & you will see how to run the tubing for the floor & tabs to bolt aluminum to. I would get a new rag joint for the steering box as well. The box & tie rod ends will be OK unless they are sloppy.

Remember, this is just the beginning. All the parts & oil & such should only run you about 100 bucks. Keep it cheap till it runs & spend from there otherwise you may bury yourself in it & get disgusted.

thats old school right there.is this a late 50's pan.i'm pretty sure it is.i had a pan buggy built like this one time.it will do wheelies with you.lol.and that front end is tough mine was abused very badly, and i swap the tranny out for a bus with gear reducers,it was geared but you couldnt keep it on the ground, hopped like a frog hahaha.good luck with your build but if your willing to spend time i would cut that pan out and put tubing back.my 2 cents.chad

So is this a frame? Im sorry to seem like this, but can anybody tell me about the parts that I have. The guy I got this from didn't know too much about it. He said the transmission is a heavy duty tranny that came out of a bus. He also says the frame is made out of Cromoly. He says the tranny works fine, but I dont trust the guy (in hindsight) and dont really believe what he is talking about.

Gasman, you seem to be pretty knowledgable about this style any other info?

DBN (Dunebuggynut) the engine runs becuase I took it off of my previous buggy. But you really think it should have a different bracing type underneath?

looks to me like some one took an old notch back and took the body off and put a frame on it.cant tell if it has a chromoly frame but i doubt it.i'm not going to sugar coat cause that would be wrong to do.if i was spending money i would not throw alot of money on fixing up old and out dated parts jmo.if the frame is good then id put a buggy floor frame in and get rid of that pan.if trannys good fine but it's not a bus that i know of.clsoed axle bus trannys ive seen had gear reducers on them, and i believe that the gearing in the tranny was the same just had the ring and pinion flipped over.could be wrong though.but if the tranny needs replaced go irs and put a real bus tranny in it.just need to think about what your main purpose of this buggy is going to be used for and go from there.as someone on here has said,it is easier to spend once and cry once than buy twice and cry twice or something like that just dont try and get by half ass or it will come back and bite you and end up costing you more in the long run.chad

I doubt its chromoly. You said you wanted diamond plate flooring. You will need to cut that floor out to do it. Personally, Id leave it alone if its solid. Put some thin aluminum over it to pretty it up. To be honest with you this frame needs a lot of changes to make it handle heavy abuse.....period. I think that you can get this drivable without spending a fortune. Use this buggy to learn on but dont sink thousands into it. Keep this one cheap. By the time you make the changes to this frame you could get another one instead. You can have a blast trail riding this & probably put less than 500 bucks in it. I am trying to keep you from spending too much & not getting bang for your buck. If your engine is good youre that much farther ahead.

If you want to jump it, hillclimb or put serious power to the ground this is not the buggy you want to use IMO. Get this one running & start a second one later if you want to spend big money on a capable machine.
