i just got what i thought was a pretty good deal on a buggy still not sure though.1500 for a complete buggy and t trailer.got it home a cranked it would not hit a lick, checked the oil and it looked weird on the stick so i drained it and about three quarts of water and about a shot glass worth of oil came out.so i put some 10w30 in there because it was all i had at hand and cranked it again to get oil going through it instead of water. it makes a squeaking sound as it cranks not sure if its the main bearings or what.what do you guys think i should do complete rebuild or what? I was pretty pissed when all that water came out clear as an irish spring  other than that im pretty happy with it i just got some new brake calipers for it they were stuck i work at advance auto and it took some time to find those calipers 85 nissan sentra, went ahead and got a elecric fuel pump, cap rotor button, condensor, points and plugs.now it hits on two cylinders but not enough to start im wondering if its a compression issue.let me know what u think guys and have a good one

Might be a good idea to tear it down before you damage the crank or block beyond repair, if it is an internal engine squeak.
cap rotor button, condensor, points and plugs all need to be Bosch. I've never had any luck at all with any other brand as far as oem type replacement stuff.
Your wires good? You check compression? With all that water in there, it couldve got on top the pistons and rusted up the valves to where they dont seat well which would give you little or no compression..?

Depending on how long the water is been there its probably Toast. As KY said, Tear it down before you do more damage. This is not one of thoses things that you start it and hope for the best.

i know what you SHOULD do, i completely agree with larry and steve, BUT just an fyi my cousin bought a buggy oh probably close to 10 years ago, it drained water out for over 8 seconds before ANY oil came out. Besides making it dual port and new pistons and rings over this time, he ran it the way it was forever. It is still running today, untouched. Where as i've blown up like 4 or 5 motors?? wtf! lol

what i would do is to pour about a gallon of diesel fuel or kerosene in the drained engine and crank it over with the stater for about 15 seconds or so and them let sit for about an hour and then crank it over for about the same amount of time and then drain it all out and clean the screen and change filter if it has one and fill it back up with some cheap oil and see how it runs, if it runs decent enough run it for about 15 minutes or until its at operating temp but not to hard and drain everthing back out and change filter and clean screen again and then pour in a quart of lucas or marvel mystery oil and top it off with good oil, but if it doesnt run or sound decent its time for a complete tear down

do this at your own risk or judgment but i have done it to more than one 4 wheeler that had water inside the engine and even a tractor once and it worked for me on all but one four wheeler

thanks guys for all the info i really dont want to tear this motor down but that squeak has got me worried he said he was driving it last summer so it must have had water in it all winter freezing and thawing.i just cant catch a break here, how much would this cost to get done,i dont have a garage or the right tools to do this, plus cash is tight :(

Im not pround to say but when i bought my buggys at a auction and got it home it was locked up deader then shite out of frustration i drained it and put deisel in it , flushed it and got it unfroze them fired it up hmm it ran great then 2 rides later i had to put some miss macthed jugs pistons and new rings in her because the cylinder walls from the water sitting in their pitted them ! but knock on wood it still runs great ! i know i got lucky but i figure its about time i had some ! i know its not the correct way to deal with this but i wanted to ride !!!!!!!!! thanks jason
