I've been running those starters for years. That thing cranks over about 2276 with an 11 to 1 compression. Don't get them from autozone, they sell junk starters.

These starters are great for anything with compression. I use one in my suby powered buggy but I use a three rib bell on my six rib trans. I got mine from carquest and its worked fine.

Thats the starter you want to run. It eliminates the need for that bushing in the bellhousing. There are several lengths of this starter. The longer the housing, the higher the torque.

But,,,if your gonna buy a new starter,,,get the late model VW Beetle diesel automatic and alter the mounting holes a little and you will be astonished at how strong it is :!:
