OK... Let me hear what you guys think.. I have recently taken guardianship of my 16 year old nephew.. I am trying to find some common activities that we can share and he is very much into Auto X racing. Here are my questions... Any idea how a buggy will work in an autocross event? Is it possible to get my exhaust below 96 dba? |

Yeah... He has been on a few buggy trips and he likes off roading but his true passion is street racing. |

Dale M. over on Buggytalk on dune-buggy.com has been doing something like that kind of racing for years in a Manx buggy. Maybe he can offer some advice. |

That would be cool. I auto X'd for a while, and there were a lot of custom built machines there. The thing is to check with the guys that are running the event to see what limitations there are, if any. I've been to events that has had crazy loud cars, but I've been to others that there was a cap on the Db because of where we were racing. I would think a buggy would be a heck of a good time there. slap on some slicks and you'll probably do pretty well. |

I did a little solo cross in the scca a few years ago. It was fun but there was alot of sitting around an waiting. I would use a manx before I would use a railbuggy. Rails have no front end weight and they arn't gonna corner for sh*t. In the scca there is a class for everything. I'm shure a manx will drop in somewhere. Honda's are also buget ways into auto x. If you wanted to say vw you could also go with a porsche 914. |

We have already bought my nephew an Acura GSR.. It is still stock for now but he has a list of mods he wants to do.. As for me, I am not looking to win, just run the course and have some fun. I have a set of street tires for my rail but they have a sound limit of 96 dba. I just wonder if it is even possible to get a buggy that low... Would I have any power left? |

I run my buggy on the street. Under steers horibly when accelerating. If you are going to use your buggy Id drop it dwn however much you can and add weight to the front. Mine corners great if I'm coasting. Then again I haven't tried it since I moved some weight around. |

Not as much power, but they handle great on the course. I'd be careful with the mods. As soon as you start doing things you move into the different classes. If you stay with stock and get some good AutoX tires, that car should be pretty competitive in it's class. If you start to modify it could move it to the Street Tire class (If they have it), which would be good. But if they move it to a modified class, some people go nuts with the mods. It all depends on the scoring system and how that group handles it. Just check into it before slapping on the new mods. |

u can get a vw motor as quiet as u want,96 db is still kinda loud,i think 150 or 160 db is like a gun shot |
