Single 40 IDF would work the best for a 1600 to 17?? cc motor

You could also try a Holley Progressive. I have built several 1641's with progressives with great success. But like Mike said, I personally like the Weber 40 also.

If it still a stock 1600 keep the Solex. A stock 1600 with a W100 cam will pull better than a stock engine with a larger carb. A single Weber 40 mm IDF or Zenith 32NDIX is good when you have ported heads and a VZ 14 cam. The single carbs need a heated intake to perform correctly.

I like the 32/36 weber progressive, I've got one on my wife's rail and haven't had any problems, good lowend and huge improvement on the topend when the second barrel opens up..

If you want to upgrade, I suggest the progressive. It is very trouble free. I ran one for 15 years.

I was happy with the Weber Progressive in mine. But I'm with the Firebug. I love my EFI. Still looking for those jets and stuff in there.

Back in the carburetor days I had some trouble with the progressive on ruff ground and angles on hill sides. It would slosh gas out of the fuel bowl and down the throat of the carburetor, other than that it ran good. I think firebug has a link to a fix for this problem. One of my brothers runs the solex and it seems to work better on his stock 1600 engine. However, since going with EFI i will never go back. If I wanna change the fuel mixture(jet size) just connect a PC :D
