whats 2 coils for bigger engines cause im thinkin bout puttin another coil on mine so it will have 2 cause some time it will crank and crank and you let off the button and push it again it will start? what would that be i got a good 1600cc is what it is and does anyone know how to wire up a reducer that cuts back the volts to the points? its one of thoes little white things |

ive never seen 2 coils on a motor,i run HEI of a small block chevyno points to worry about |

the 2nd coil is usually just a backup in case the 1 thier running goes bad bosch blue coil and a petronix ignitior is a good and reliable setup at least thats what im running on my current buggy and never had any trouble for 3 years so far |

It sounds like he wants to put 2 coils on to make it run better? It sounds like the timing is off or some other problem. I think a stock coil should have 3oms to be good. High voltage coils have less oms and need a ballast resistor. |

High voltage coils have less oms and need a ballast resistor. yeah ive already got the resistor and yeah wantin another coil to make it run better if it will lol kybuggy im bout ready for another ammo box bout got mine full of tools oh and thanks for that diagram hillaholicso should i get my time advanced? i know how to check it take your #1 plug out and put a screw driver in there and turn the alternator belt, is that right? |

get a timming light. You can barrow one from the loan a tool program from Advanced auto. Check your timming that way. You might call Tim at southern buggys and see what he would charge you too get your buggy running right. Then leave it a lone. I would guess there is many small things that need adjusted to make it run right. 2 coils is only going to make you spend more money and not fix it. |

Running 2 coils is not going to make it run any better, just like most of these guys said, it sound like a timing issue. I am running a MSD coil-pack and I was told that coil-packs does a little better in some applications as well, but that is not always the case and I am not running a ballast resistor, the coil measures 1.5 ohms. Here is what I am running......http://www.jegs.com/i/MSD/121/8252/10002/-1 and the MSD ignition module.....http://www.jegs.com/i/MSD/121/6520/1000 ... tId=747836 I love my MSD system, but I have seen a lot run just as good with the stock coil and 009 distributor. |

thanks for the help, it was out of time a little came home this evening took the #1 plug out and put a screw driver in there and turned the alternator belt and got it up to the top and changed the points roller button and coil and hooked that resistor up while i was at it and put some of that lucas gas stuff in it (suppose to be better than STP) should be almost 6 bucks for a little bottle but i pushed that button and it fired right up! thanks for the help! |

Glad its doing better, but finding TDC is not all there is to setting your timing. You still need to put a light on it and make sure your at 32-34 degrees advance when its revved up to about 2600-3000 rpm. That should put your timing at idle at around 10 degrees BTDC or so. |
