what kind of paint is ever one useing? I was goin to use rattle cans but it would take a crap load lol. So I was lookin at the dupli-color paint shop seriers of paints. Its pretty cheap. But green onley comes in candys is it any harder to spray candys than reg colors? I am usein the cheapest spray gun harbo freight has I think its 20 bucks. It onley has to work this one time.lol..
SO what do you gues suggest for a good paint? I am really really wanting a really bright green...

Rattle can it if you aint gonna powdercoat it.
Yes, candies are much harder to spray. True candies have either gold, silver or black under them and it would be nearly impossible to not mottle the hell out of the candy on a buggy. It takes an experienced painter to make it look right on auto panels, much less around the pipes and overlapping intersections of a buggy. I've seen a couple street buggies done in candy paint and they looked like dogsh%t to me. I do paint n bodywork for a living and will NEVER spray another buggy with a gun. Did my first one, spent hours prepping it with help, was a major workout trying to keep the clear all wet while spraying, and it busted off easier than rattle can paint. Looked like hammered hell in no time.

A decent option that is cheaper than p/c is electrostatic painting. It is next best thing to pc in my opinion. You can assemble within a couple days if you are careful, but it takes several weeks to FULLY cure if you dont low temp bake it. But once it does cure, its pretty darn close in toughness to pc.

Rattle can semi gloss black is my choice. They are getting sophisticated these days with self etching and epoxy primer. Touch up is a breeze. I painted my wifes rail VW orange but it is a real pain to paint a tube chassis especially to get even coverage, no dry spots and not to hit fresh paint with the gun or your body.

If you do paint it get twice as much as you think you'll need, painting tubing is a PITA. You'll see as much on the floor as what's on the chassis.

I used equipment paint from tractor supply. Works good as long as you add the hardener. Its not as shiny and pretty as automotive paint, but hell I'm just gonna rub it off in the woods anyway. They also have touch up paint in spray cans to match.

I used "Dollar General Red"  sand and primer first and paint is a dollar a can. A friend of mine had his buggy powder coated, cost him 1200.00  ouch

I spent days researching paint and finally found some extremely durable paint used to paint Semi Truck spoilers. The paint was fantastic and the buggy looked great for about one season. I tried touching up the paint but it became difficult to always mix the hardner and break out the sprayer after every ride.

I have now given up on the paint and found a rattle can that matched the original color.

The moral of the story, if you are going to go off road, no paint is going to hold up to Rocks, trees and mud. Try to spend as little as possible and touch it up often.

Just my 2 cents

IMHO Powder coat is the only way to go. For the amount of labor it takes prepping the frame for paint, getting the coverage you need to only later have it rub off in the woods in a short time is not worth it. With PC it gets sandblasted washed and then powered. PC is 10 times more durable than paint. For repairs and touch up then use a rattle can.

good luck with sandblasting your frame with one of those little sand blasters, it will take you forever. your probably better off, taking your frame to a blast shop for about 100 bucks, and they will even shoot some primer on for you. i use duplacolor truck/van paint. that stuff sprays nice and its real easy to touch up, and while your at the store, you buy one of those plastic handles that clips on the top of the spray can, and you feel like a real professional.

Krylon. It covers pretty good but it will rub off easily when you rub on trees and rocks. Giving it that wonderful paint slash rust look that every woodsbuggy should have.
