I am thinking very hard I want a tubed out baja for the street. Would this be a good Idea? Not a d/d Just something for weekends and car shows. I am thinking of usein a old 2 seater buggy chassis as the base. Was wornding if any one made a pre bent baja roll charge? I am also thinking 5x7s in the back and mabey 3-4 longer in the frount and mabey 2-3 inches wider. Would this handle all right on the street? What is a good carbed engine besides a vw? I am wanting water cooled.I want ot be able to run this thing on the 4 lane at 75-80 around here..Thanks for the help. |

As for the premade cage search for a class 11 cage kit. A lot of the vendors sell them. They would be a good thing to build off of as I personally think you need more diagonal bars than what comes in the kits. http://www.pacificcustoms.com/AC800230.html John |

Set up correctly , I dont see why it wouldnt handle great on the street. A carbed vw (again, done correctly) would also be fine to run you around the freeway at 75-80 mph. Unless you just want a waterslinger, its definately not a necessity to run 80. I drove a mildly built 1641 w/ a freeway flyer tranny in a full bodied beetle back and forth from KY to FL about 4 times a year while I was in college and never had ANY trouble keeping up with traffic on the interstates. |

You might need to look at how wide you will be with 5 x 7 arms. Depending on your tires, that could be as wide as the street. As for the motor, I have a 2.2 Subaru engine for sale. It would work great in a Baja. See parts for sale forum |

Most of the cheap class eleven cages are made from .095 wall tubing. You are going to want to be safe and use.120 wall to build your project. With a 10" wider rear torsion housing and 10x1 rear arms my final project Baja rear track is 84 " about the same as a Dually. As much as I like VW engines the Subaru might be the best economical choice for power and ease of bolting on PS. Look on racedezert.com and thesamba.com often there are large bajas complete or rollers being sold for much less than the cost of buying parts. |
