Guys we lost a hell of a good boy from the buggy world today.for those who knew scotty collins know he was a good man.dont really know all the story but i was told he was mounting a late model tire on his buggy and he put to much air in it tring to pop it on the bead it blew up and killed him.so i ask all of you to pray for his family.

Sorry to hear about that, thougts and prayers go out to his family. If you can find out more details about what went wrong with the wheel and tire. Cause alot of guy use those wheels. So we can try to prevent any other problems or injurys.

i talked yo eric daboard today and said that the showing would be mon or tuesday ill let everybody know as soon as i find out. i myself have tried to put those late modle tires on and they take alot of air to get the bead to pop on the back side. so if you want to put a set on have them put on by a pro.they put them in a cage and blow em up that way they cant get ya.

I used to ride with him a few years back when I got my first buggy, he was a very nice and talented fellow and knows his VW stuff, I remember once that his buggy motor locked up on a ride in KY and got towed out and we rode for about another hour, then when we got back, he got his buggy motor off of it and already got the rods off of the crank and found that he wiped the rod bearings, I thought that was pretty fast to get that far. My prayers goes out to his family and friends as well and hate to lose a good buggy rider. Be careful out there guys and god bless.

What a terribble loss. Scotty was a super nice guy and very good at what he did . I bought my first buggy motor from him. Still got it.

Pray for his family, he will be deeply missed.

I am truly sorry to hear this. Our thoughts and prayers for the family and friends.

On a side note…
This is scary because I have done tires several times with no bad effects. After reading this I will change my ways. I plan to get a locking fill valve and set my regulator to 40psi and clear the area while it fills.

My condolensens to the family. Its a sad thing too see how a simple procedure can have such bad results. Really makes you think about how we do things. :(

R.I.P Scotty.
I know he'll be greatly missed by many people. From what I knew of him, he was a great guy.

I have known Scotty for many years and I bought a couple of transmissions from him just 2 days before the accident. Scotty loved to go to the VW shows and cheat anyone he could, lol. I always told him he would cheat his own mother if given the chance. He and I loved to tease each other about anything we could. I usually talked about him being short and I will always remember his son, Zach saying "don't make him mad or he will head-butt you in the crotch!" He could definitely "dish it out" but he could take it as well. He was a good guy and would help anyone out if he could. From what I understand, he was leaning over the wheel/tire when it exploded. I am not sure if ether was used, but I heard it was, or if it was simply way too much pressure. Anyone who has tried to mount dirt track tires onto the Douglas/Mitchell wheels knows how hard it is to get them over the bead. We will miss you, Scotty....

Hey guys... I just wanted to get on here to tell you all thanks for all the kind, wonderful, and funny things you have said about my Brother!! Not, only was he my brother... He was my best friend, My mechanic, and the one I turned to for everything I needed to know!!! I am truley lost without him. It makes me feel great to know how many lives he touched in such a positive manner. If anyone would like to get a hold of me for anything, or just to talk, you can reach me at: collins2008@windstream.net.

And, just to let you know....There are hundreds of stories about what happened. He was not using Ether to mount the tire, the wheel he was mounting it onto, just came apart, A truley tragic accident that should not ever happen! Be careful guys!!!

PS, Thanks again guys,

Del
