Post subject:  Electric power steering

I am in the process of building a new buggy. While at a buggy show in Lansing Michigan a few weeks ago I stumbled across a power steering unit out of a 2008 Nissan Versa. The unit is made by Koyo and appears to be complete. I had planned on running hydraulic power steering but thought this may be a nice alternative.
Now for the problem, the wires to the eps control unit and the torque sensor are cut and I have no idea how to wire them up. I stopped by the Nissan dealer and they provided me with a wire diagram but I still do not know where the four wires coming off of the torque sensor go to. I was also able to find and download a full service manual online. I have spent 20 plus hours looking online and can not find much. I have also posted on several forums and I am making a little progress. I also sent an email to Koyo and I think I heard them laughing at me when the responded with, "We only talk to car companies” I have also sent an email to the folks over at Unisteer and have not heard back. The unit I have is very similar to the Ididit steering column. http://www.unisteer.com/mm5/merchant.mv ... e=UNISTEER
Through the help of another posting I made some one suggested I speak with this guy (russellpalmer47).

He said he does not work on the Koyo systems but said he has been setting up EPS units for a while now and has shipped several from the UK to the US. I am waiting for more information.
Now the reason fo rthis post. Does anyone have anyinformation that may help me with this?
Thanks,
Bryan

I believe that the Electric power steering systems require you to run the ECM otherwise they will not function. There may be a way to defeat some of it however I do not know how..

Retraction/update: I should have looked at the links before I posted lol. I did not realize they had allready found a way DUH!

I am thinking the same thing as you are Subysteve. The last one he sold wasn’t too bad of price even shipped from the UK. I am still waiting to hear from Unisteer to see if they can help.
What manufacture of eps do you have?

Firebug, if you liked what you saw there wait a few months and I am sure you will appreciate what I am building now. Watch the new build to see how the project is coming.
