In that article it says. "In addition, the company is working to raise about $200 million from private equity investors by late March or early April for engineering and ground clearing," That's alot of money to raise in a short period of time. Even for a major corporation. Also i would think you would have all the money set up before you would break ground. There was a article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer on aprox 12/26/08 about this whole thing. Based on what was in the article nothing seems to be for shure. It all just sounded like they were being hope full and optimistic. Oak tree kind of has a web site http://www.geocities.com/oaktree43968/index.html It says they are still open. But I'm shure if they gave that guy all his money he probably wouldn't be to worried about updating his web site. I tried calling the number. I just got some girl's voicemail. Does anyone know what's going on with forbiden zone? |

This plant has had Wellsville's riding future up in the air for years. This is the same kind of thing that took away West Point as a ride spot. Word is that if this plant opens, RIDING ENDS! Leave it to Ohio to take away the only fun thing in the state. I keep hearing Hillsville is open to riding again but I can't confirm it. |

that good to hear but sad!that kind of what happend to cromer ridge.land like cromer and wellsvill will never last forever.with the way things are now with all the tree huggers and bigg money corp.s that is why we need to support parks like d&k and others. that use thier vaulable for ridein and camping sooner or later some of those parks will be all we have left. i feel bad for you guys from wellsville it sounds like you guys are about to lose a killer riding spot! |

Politicians can't understand why kids are always finding ways of getting into trouble. This is why. Take away all fun activities & make everything else illegal & then tell the kids have fun & stay out of trouble. You can't skateboard or ride a bike or a gokart or anything that might keep a kid busy so they vegitate with video games or commit suicide because their lives suck by the age of 12...UNBELIEVABLE! |

Yea this is starting to worry me! I cant imagine not having wellsville to go riding, Definitly keeps me outta trouble cuz i spend all my time in the garage, and it keeps me away from the bar, saving money for all the parts we go threw down there. Hopefully it takes awhile for them to get that money, I wonder if theres a way we could get ahold of them people to see where or if we will be able to ride at all |

After running a Google search for Baard Energy and Wellsville, I can see just as many negatives as there are positives. The fluff: Obviously Baard & Co.tells you only the fluff: http://www.baardenergy.com/projects.htm The Baard picture map shows a blue line from the power lines down to Rt.7 as a "future industrial park" (we all know that this will be a disgustingly ugly materials dumping/ stockpiling ground). The main plant is down by the river. This will create construction jobs (temporary) and some plant maintenance and operator jobs (as long as the price of Middle East and South American oil stays high ($38 a barrel is high?). The bad: This production plant is probably like any other plant that processes solvents of any type. Air emissions during daylight will be minimal, but during the night the entire valley will smell like solvents and fuel. Most processing plants of fuels and solvents are unfortunately situated in river valleys for easy access to the water, but that same valley also traps heavy toxic fumes for you and your children to breathe into your fragile lungs. Any new processing plants should be situated away from people and NOT in a river valley. The reality: This production plant is supposedly for producing diesel type fuel for "the military". This is codespeak for "anything goes" and gets a pass on negative environmental impact. It is easy to ignore the extra pollution of the river and the air as well as the monetary cost when the label "national security" is affixed to a project. I can even hear Congress and the president being told that we cannot invade Iran because these plants are not up and running! What a crock of B.S. our Congress falls for over and over when "national security" is cited. The suggestions: Tell the good people of Wellsville the truth about this process about to destroy their relatively clean way of life. Tell the good people upwind (like me) and downriver of this disgusting proposal that is being decided by people who only see dollar signs and have never read a new cancer report in their life. Tell the so-called environmental lobby about double the increase of CO2 gases when this "new" fuel is burned by cars and trucks(you will never hear from these bozos as long as COngress is a Democrat majority and especially if we have a Democrat president. The joke: This plant will be built and will become an albatross around the necks of anyone who touches it. Just like TVA (Tennesse Valley Authority) nuclear power plant, the costs will hemorage tax dollars and the final bill will be presented to the consumers when the place is shut down. Extra taxes will be added to your gasoline bill as soon as this plant is started and like any other tax, they will never ever be removed. |

I have done some research including talking with Columbianna Port Authorty this morning. For the Record this Plant will go. It is scheduled for this year and ground breaking will start between April and August. The primary area of the plant will consume all of Oak tree and some limits beyond its boundrys. The plans down the road are to expand this area up to 2000 acreas for development. They will be fensing in the Rocky road tributary. This work will begin soon. It is an EPA mandate prior to construction. The EPA has also issued the required permits so you know what that means. Here is the EPA link that shows the area and around a 1000 pages of documents to support this project etc: http://www.epa.state.oh.us/dsw/401/OhioRiverCleanFuels/ |

It is absolutely stunning that this is moving forward. Just the environmental impact study alone should kill this plan as far as so-called "environmentalists" are concerned. Where are these generously funded phonies now? You know that the enviro-wackos took tons of pictures of 4X4 ruts on the hill climbs, yet they look the other way when tens of millions of cubic yards of rock and soil are about to be spread around the hilltop and into the creek valley? Stunning...absolutely stunning. |

Jim, does this really surprise you? I know you are a realist. I have seen this coming for a long time and I am afraid it's finally here. Bummer. Been through this many times before with many different riding spots. |

We have jumped the shark on Wellsville for the long time that you mention, but holding out hope that these land deals will fall through is our fantasy in a real world. Just being able to master the off road rides in a fine machine has been a fantasy come true, yet the younger people will not get the same opportunity? THAT is the reality that stings the greatest. Growing up in America has been a fantasy come true and the reality is that it does not have to end so quickly. I still have not gotten over my mini-Wellsville being mowed over by Robinson Town Centre oh so many years ago. There are only so many realities that my brain can handle. I can't pass my memories onto the next generation, but I can preserve what little is left to pass on by writing about it. Clarksburg is just so remote. |

This is why I bought my land out in the mountains of Virginia. I own it and I say what goes and what does not. I will always have a place to dig ruts or do burnouts whenever I want. When my grandchildren come for visits they will be able to enjoy the woods If they care to. |

I have been looking out for replacements for Wellsville for years. I see buggies & ATV's coming up I75 way below Canton every summer but I dont know where they ride. I also see trails off rt60 before pittsburgh but I dont know if they can be ridden. I cant seem to find out if Hillsville is open to riding either. I have heard too many stories to know what to believe. There used to be trails near Dover Ohio. Also off rt224 east of Canfield ohio. Anybody have a clue?? |

Buying land really doesnt sound crazy. The land we need is mostly unusable & cheap. Id kick in for something like that. I want my kids to grow up off roading & Ill do what I have to for them. |

I want my kids to grow up off roading & Ill do what I have to for them. Buying land is a great Ideal however still expensive and impractical. You really need at least 500 acres to make it worth while. Even at $200.00 and acre (highly unlikly) you would still need $100,000.00 plus tax and closing costs. So if you had 200 members going in on it and paying cash it would cost each person at least $500.00. Then there is a deed issue and 200 people owning the same piece of property. See were that is going. I am not trying to be cynical here just realistic! |

Interesting considering the Port Authorty told me there breaking ground this year. I will call them again tomorrow and find out what Dave is actually saying and why. There apears to be some misinformation going on here. I will also try and get a hold of Barrd Industries to get ther take on it. So far all I get is voice mail. I am also going to discuss with them about us coexisting with them on the surrounding area. So word to the wise if we are to make any head way in that direction we need to not react in a negative way about any of this ie; vandelisim etc. when construction actually begins. I am sure that none of us are like that |
