I just got the CB Performance IDF 44 upgrade kit. I'm working on getting it installed but I cannot get my old venturis out, they seem stuck and won't budge. Anyone had this problem and how did you get them out without damaging the carb body? I have already slightly damaged one of the vents trying to drive it out with a screwdriver. What next?

Thanks,

Dale

Not sure if this will work but its worth a shot.

Take some ice and put it in a baggy stick it inside the vents and try to shrink them.

Have you pulled out the chokes that sit on top of them? Sometimes they get stuck pretty good.

That's the boost veturi and they came out pretty easy. I've tried soaking in carb cleaner, spraying with penetrating oil, and the ice packet but they ain't budging. I guess I will try boiling it in water tonight to see if expansion of the carb body might give the vents enough room to come out. MAN, I paid 150 bucks for this kit and I'm gonna be pissed if I can't install it.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I FINALLY got the damned things out. I had to cut down the side of each venturi with a rotary grinder. They were corroded to the wall of the carb body. I managed to do it with only a few nicks to the carb body, nothing serious, the new vents will cover.

WOW what a job this turned out to be! I highly recommend anytime you have a carb apart for cleaning or whatever pull the vents and make sure it is CLEAN back there! Maybe even a light layer of grease as it goes back together.

Whew!

I know you mentioned that you got them out but a trick that can be used also for cold is to get a bottle of compressed air for computers flip it up side down and spray it. VERY COLD freezing in fact air

Just wanted to follow up after this carb ordeal.

One thing that is included in the kit are the needle valves that the floats connect to that turn off the fuel when the bowl gets full. This is actually part of a Redline rebuild kit that CB Performance bundles with the other parts that includes all the gaskets, o-rings, and other rebuild parts. So, I install everything and bolt the left carb up, connect the fuel line and move over to right carb and start mounting it. I start smelling gas and hear this trickling sound. I look and both left carb barrels are overflowing with fuel! I pinch off the line while I watch the engine swallow all that gas. GREAT.

Long story short, I had to reinstall my old needle valves. Both carbs did the same thing. After changing the oil, I pulled all the plugs and cranked it over to get all the raw fuel out of the cylinders. Number four shot out a slug fuel that splatted on my shop wall, it surely would have broke something had I cranked it with all that fuel in there.

Performance wise, I guess the kit helps a little. The mid range seems better but I didn't notice a huge improvement. The engine is a 2332. I'm not sure if I had to do this over again that I would spend the money. I got 'er dun, but it was a real pain in the ASS! :x

Man, that sucks, you should'nt have to deal with all of the problems with the kit and the teardown, but glad to hear at least you got something out of it. It made a huge difference on my engine, but like I said before, it all depends on your engine specs. What cam and heads do you have?

one thing that helps webers the most is the pump exhaust valve,it goes in the bottom of the bowl, factory it is a .050 thous,if u order a .000 thous.,that valve is for the pump and the squrters, the 000 thous. valve lets all the gas go to the squirters and not back in the bowl,it helps with throttle response alot,u should try them they are about 10 bucks a peice,1 per carb

The cam is an Engle 110 and the heads are CB 044 Magnum Plus, 42mm x 37mm valves.

I noticed the little ball valve in the floor of the float bowl and could see it returning fuel to the bowl as the pump shot. I got it running perfect so I ain't messin' with the carbs AT ALL for awhile.

I'll be at the Easter D&K hillclimb, I'll be the one standing halfway up the hill with a camera. See ya'll there.
