anybody have a ball park figure of how much it cost to powder coat a frame ?

there is a place in Huntsville,Alabama called "its not paint" said $600 that was about a year ago i dont imagine it has went up much

Clayton Hollingsworth "AKA" Hollywood does powder coating in London,KY and he did a frame for me a couple yrs ago for$300.Dont hold me to that price though,but he is good and fair on his prices.Send me a PM and i'll give you his # or you can call Tim at Southern buggys aat 606-864-2217 for his # as well.

I paid $375 to have mine done 4 or 5 years ago, Gloss Black with a clear coat.

make sure you clear coat it makes it tuff some times if you buy your own powder it makes it cheeper

I might be wrong.. but it is my understanding that once you powder coat the frame. It is difficult to make any modifications and add additional tubing.

Well, its not much differentthan paint in that matter. Grind a bare spot to weld. Its just a bit more work to patch back up. My buddy with powdercoat has found a rattle can that matches his color. But it defeats the main purpose of powder coat.

Not difficult at all. Proper weld prep and a good rattle can paint job when your done. I have added to or altered my chassis a bunch since it was coated. I glad I did it in black, makes the color match easy.

The main purpose is to protect the frame from rust. If you add or fix something, there is still 99% of it coated.

Mine was done at Rack Coatings in Cannal Fulton, OH a long time ago. Price then was about $400 and it had to be sandblasted first. I would not do it again on a buggy. It will last forever if you never have to repair a tube or make any frame mods, it can also hide dangerous frame cracks! I will use paint on my next build. On the other hand though, pwder can be touched up years later with another light coating of powder and baked again. It can be done in any color for duability but the color must be the same to get any good looks from it. Be careful of who sprays the powder. Powder is expensive and a little goes a long way. Unlike paint, too much powder does not run. It just spreads out and looks good but kills your wallet.

Have you actually tryed to redo powder coat on a frame repair with out being able to put the whole frame in a 400 degree oven for an hour.

No, did not try to recoat. Rack Coatings offered to try and blend in some frame changes I made after the original coating. The changes were some high repair items so I chose to blend paint into the powder. The recoating plan is surely a winter project that involves a complete tear down and recoating of the frame...just like the original coating without the sand blast. My current employer uses powder coating every day...the oven is just not big enough for a frame. :( Anything smaller than a frame would fit in our oven but the bosses might question why I was spending 40hrs a week in the coating shop! I do like my job so I will keep paying for paint and powder.
