I need to put a deck on a new trailer so I bought pressure treated wood. I started thinking if steel bolts will rust out in a year or so won't my trailer? I can put pain pine borads they would last just as long but don't realy want to use them. What do you guys think??
Dave

The best thing to use would be Oak boards, they are pricey, but the will last a liftime. Thats what is on most heavy equipment trailers, and low-boys. If you have a wood yard or saw mill close by I would check the price and compare it with pressure treated. May not be worth it to you?

If you go with treated make sure you use the new galvinized bolts. They switched the treatment and if your noit using the right hardware it will eat steel up. You will get a few years out of treated though.

The best thing to use is ruff cut oak boards. I would find a saw mill in your area and go there. I have seen people try to use treated lumber on there trailiers and it does not last long. Plus the stuff they use to treat the wood is really slippery when it gets wet. You will pay alittle more for the oak, but it will last twice as long.

Your trailer should not rust out in a year or so... Keep it painted and you should be fine. I have had my trailer for 5 years with no problems. The crappy plywood is a little worn out but the frame and bolts are just fine.
