My new wheels are on the way and I need adaptors. I can get them from southern buggys but my father in law said he can make them for free. He needs some dimensions or pictures to help figure it out. Do you just thread the wide five holes and bolt them on or do they have studs? He has plenty of 1" aluminum plate but what size should it be? Is 1" thick ok? Any other suggestions would be great. 3/8'' or 1/2'' thick it's better to bend the adaptor than the wheel , just bolts an nuts fine thread |

Brad, Mine are made out of 1/2" aircraft grade aluminum. I have press in studs in them and I use the Weld reversible lug nuts. Anything thinner and you will bend them in the rocks. I think 1" would be overkill and just add extra weight. |

Brad, mine are 3/4" thick aluminum. I have the dimentions if you want them. I used press in studs as well. As far as bending the wheel, it takes a bunch to bend a wide 5 wheel. I have seen dirt late models hit the wall at 100 mph bend the crap out of the bead, and everything else, but the wheel center stayed true. So 1" might be a little over-kill but so what, free is the best price yet. |

i also run these my adapters where threaded for the wide 5 and we put the lug bolts in and welded them because the always backed out if i can find a photo i will post it if you still need a photo they are also 1/2 thick steel adapters and are holding fine |

There are a bunch of folks that want the numbers to make them, here ya go. The VW 4 bolt /----------/ 4 on a 130.5mm (5.137") dia. bolt circle. The VW wide 5 /----------/ 5 on a 205mm (8.071") dia. bolt circle. This one I'm not 100% sure of, will check and verify. The racing wide 5 /-------/ 5 on a 10.250" (260.350mm) dia. bolt circle. I think, depending on the size of the studs and lug nuts. If you are going from a VW wide 5 to a racing wide 5, there will be some clearence issues between the racing wide 5 wheel and the lug nuts for the VW wide 5 hub. Also make sure of the clearence in between the press in studs and the brake cailper, I had to recess mine to clear. Lay out on rotary table   Back side  All nice and new.

Mike, you are correct. I have wide 5 Volkswagen hubs and my lug nuts had interference with the Weld race car wheel. I had to clearance the wheel a little bit. No big deal. |

Thanks for the help guys. My step dad is going to be making them soon. MadMike I have a few questions about the ones you made. What is the reason for the counter sunk spot on the back side of the adaptor? Is that to help support the adaptor on the rotor so it’s not just the 4bolt lugs taking all the weight? What is the clearance you used here and the depth? Same with the front it looks like its step cut to support the wide5 rim. Is that just for more strength? Why did you remove the material in-between the wide 5 lug holes? I was thinking just leave a full circle and have him drill 5 extra lug holes just incase something happened to the other holes. Last question, if I have him leave it flat with no step cuts will it be strong enough? Thanks, Brad |

I have a set of 3/8 aluminum ones that are just a flat circle. Ran them on heavy two seater with no problems for a year or so. ..Until I hit a stump at WOT in 2nd.  It bent it, but I'm glad IT bent instead of my Weld wheel. Straightened it best I could with a bearing press, its still on my sons buggy. Little wobbly , but he dont mind  !
I made a set that are star shaped, 1/2" aluminum, flat. I'm running those with some carbon fiber wheels on my one seater with no problems yet. About 5-6 rides on them. I guess it would depend on buggy weight and where/how you ride on how beefy they need to be. I see you were talking to MadMike anyways, so I'll shut up.

Brad, Flat adapters work just fine. Mike made his that way because he can and they are his. If I had access to the machinery he has, I would have made mine fancy as well. All the adapters I have ever seen are full circle. |

My T trailer is only so wide so I moved things around to make it still fit with thoes wheels and tires. |

Mike I think this bolt pattern is wrong. I just checked www.weldwheels.com and all the wide 5 wheels are 5x10.250 (260.35 mm). My father in law drilled them for 10.125 and called me saying they don’t line up in the centers. It’s not a big deal because I have room for 5 more holes. I just wanted to let you and anyone else know if they make some. Brad |

sorry, thanks kevin Like 'em fine so far. They will bust if you hit just wrong, from what I've heard. A veteran KY climber (one of the best ever) busted one all to pieces. Small price to pay to reduce rotating unsprung weight .
(Not really, if they bust and I feel like an aluminum would've survived that same hit, I'll go back to aluminum.) Sorry took me so long to answer. Missed your post. Larry |

My buddy Dave runs the carbon fiber wheels and he has not busted one yet. He bent an adapter last year and the wheel held up fine. Lucky I guess. |

I got one tire mounted today. It lost 30lbs from my old set up. One tire and rim was 96lbs and now with the new rim its 66lbs. So my rotating mass will loose a total of 60lbs. |
