I'm not sure the price is that bad when you consider the octane. Its right there with race gas octane level. I get a 100 pound cylinder filled for $60 for heating the shop. |

Propane is a good alternative fuel. If your truck is carburated the switch from gas to propane is very easy. All it requires is a holley base plate, which will let you mount the propane unit straight to your intake. All you have to buy is the correct evaporator and mixer according to your engines horsepower. There is a little bit if plumbing you will have to do because the whole system works off of a vacum. You will also need to run a small antifreeze line to the unit to keep it from freezing up under acceleration. I would advise buying a new mixer and evaporator as opposed to used. There is not a whole lot that can go wrong with either of them, but you will get alot better fuel millage out of new stuff. The only thing about propane I don't like is the swapping out of tanks can be a hassel, and if you run out of it in the woods, you cant just sypen some out of your buddy's rig to get you back to camp. When your out, your just out. I think the octane is around 120 or so, so it's cheaper than racing gas, and that is why most people with high hp v8's run propane in the woods. Hope this has been of some help to you. |
