Right now I am running a single weber 44, that has seen better days. I have been looking into a new one. I had thought about trying to find a four barrel intake and running a Edelbrock carb. I am just not sure if it will work for what we do. I am like you I would like to talk to someone that has tried it to see the pros and cons. |

I used to run one with a 470cfm 4-barrel Holley Truck Avenger and An Edelbrock off-road 650cfm carb. It was most pain in the ass I have ever worked with, it runs like a top on the street, but like crap in the woods when on a hill because it loads up very bad, almost foul out every plugs everytime from the excess fuel spilling from the carb into the intake, I tried several things to make it work right.....nothing works, I don't care what Holley and Edelbrock says about their carbs, it does not work on a VW in the woods correctly. I would highly suggest not to run one if you are going to use it in the woods. Trust me, I know from experience, it makes me wish I never done it in the first place. It is a Johnny's 4-play for about $210 or so from California. I switched over to dual 44 Webers and it was the best move I made. |
dude the 4 barrel works awesome offroad. just have to get a smaller jets
I tried that on both carbs, no luck, the spillage is not from the jets (big or small) it is coming from the vents that is on the top of the carbs, no matter high you run the vents or set the float in the bowl, it will still come out of the vents when at an angle and/or an incline. I am just trying to help others for their answers from questions being asked, like I said I have t |

Make sure you get the original genuine Webers, look at the bottom on the flange on the carbs and make sure it says "Made in Spain" or "Made in Italy", don't get the Empi Webers, they are JUNK! I have heard nothing but bad news about the Empi webers, they are made in Taiwan or China somewhere and they are piss-poorly made. Look at CB Performance's website and look them up, they may be a little pricey, but well worth the money. CB Performance is a good place to buy parts, I don't think they sell Empi stuff. Take a look at these links...... http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=500 http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=493 Give them a call and ask them about these kits and also ask them to see if they are Genuine Webers too. They are not too bad to setup, once you know-how and figured it out.....it is easy from there. Kadrons and Dellortos are not bad carbs, they run good too when setup properly. I've seen an 1835 ran like a bat outta hell with dual Kadrons, it impressed me when I saw how it ran. Dellortos ran O.K. on one buggy I rode with in Smith Branch, KY, he had nothing but problems with them for a little while then he got them working good about half-way into the ride. |
they do not make 4 barrel intakes for vw. you have to make your own

dude the 4 barrel works awesome offroad. just have to get a smaller jets
They do make 4 bbl. intakes for VWs. And they don't work as good as Webers or Dellortos IMHO. |
